Poll: Would/Do you leave your car running when you run in the gas station?

The idea to do a survey on this just popped into my head tonight as I ran in to get a gallon of Milk. I've always done that and had no problems. Now, there are certainly parts of Knoxville where I would never do such a thing, but generally, it's okay to leave your car running for runs into the gas station here.

I was gonna do it on Facebook, but that would be heavily knoxville biased answers, so AZ is the perfect choice I figured.

So, is it safe where you are to leave you car running while running in a gas station for cigs, milk, pay for gas, etc?

Never. It only takes a few seconds for somebody to realize the car is unattended and take off with your ride.

Of course, and of course also I'm not going to do that when it 5:30 and a million cars are in there and a there's a bum standing by the ice machine, but, you know. lol.

A few weeks ago some girl left a Corvette running outside the 7-Eleven near my house. She wasn't even watching it and was chatting it up with the clerk. I thought about taking off with it just to teach her a lesson but had other things to do.

Haha.

Uh.

It takes two extra seconds to turn your engine off and lock your car.

And in those same two seconds, the creep hidin behind the bushes waitin for a fool like you can jump in and run off with your still running car.

That actually reminds me of several times when I've seen people stupidly (in my opinion) leave their cars un-attended.

I guess I should've been a little more specific. I'm talking about just for quick 2-3 min runs inside gas stations, where your car doesn't leave your sight. That's the only way I'll ever do it.

The other day this guy left his car running when he ran into Wal-mart. Probably the starter was funked up or something to where he had no choice, but damn, I'd NEVER do that. It was like a late 90's 626, so nothing special, but I'm sure worth enough for a decent size bag of crack!

See, it's tough to wiggle the screwdriver just right in the cracked steering column, so, since he stole the car anyway, if someone takes off with the POS, he will just shoplift a new screwdriver from WalMart and steel another car while the 93 year old security guard in the 2MPH golf cart watches and sucks some piece of ham out of his dentures...

Here in Knoxville, the big major chain of gas station's called Weigle's, it has hands-down the best milk in the area and is literally half as expensive as Mayfield. $2.50/gallon. We go through LOTS of milk in my household lol.

Sorry, I just realized you are in Tennessee.

All rules of humanity cease to exist in Tennessee.

Leave it running, don't wear pants, drink the milk from the carton in the store and put it back on the shelf, marry your sister and make more moonshine already, dammit!

A ramblings

To answer your question, HELL NO!! I lock my car inside the garage, driveway, everywhere. Paranoid? Maybe yes but my car has never been stolen.

One of these days someone is going to steal the car right in front of you. It's not a matter of "if" it will happen but "when".

No. I recently read in my local police blotter about a car that was stolen because of this.

Stogie? Maturity and respect?

Uhhhh, yeah, good luck with that.

A long time ago, in an area where it NEVER occured to me that I'd have trouble, I had brand new pair of high tops stolen out of my unlocked car.

That was the first and only (knock on wood) time. Since then, if I leave the car, I lock it. Period.

I never understand why people think it's ok to leave the car running and unattended even for a second.

I guess it depends on location but I live in what I consider to be a fairly safe community and even then I still wouldn't do it. It's not even about safety, it's about efficiency - if you don't need to waste the gas idling, then don't do it.

depends, where, who's working and what time of day and how long I think I'll be. I'd say on average 1 out of 10 times I'll do it.

I misread the poll, thinking you meant while filling with gas, which coincidentally, I see quite a bit down here.

But then I would have to use all that energy required to extend my grossly fat arm, and rotate my immense wrist. Nope, too much effort for me.

No way. Only if I forgot something at the house, I will drive back up the driveway and leave the car on as I run into the house.

It's illegal in Texas to leave your car running.
That law is only in place in case some one does take off with your car. your insurance is not liable if you leave the keys in the ignition and some one steals it.

If I'm not in it, the car isn't running.
