It does have a clutch and shifter. You just don't control the clutch.
And no, it wouldn't be 8 gears. They made it 7 gears for the ratio advantages, and the only reason the SMG is the only choice for it is somewhat obvious. A stick would get quite confusing with 7 gears to choose from. It would be too easy to put in 2nd instead of 4th or even 6th.

I'd love a new M5 but would never pay for it, can't get over the new look yet and the new 3 is even worse......
That new 750Li is so tight tho.

Scion xB, not bad for some types but I could never ever drive it.
Even if my car caught on fire in the middle of the castro on a friday night and I had to use my pants to put the fire out and the only friend that could help me out came to pick me in his little brothers Xb,
I would still walk home.
