Parking Ticket (Defective Meter)

hello,, I recently got a parking ticket involving a defective meter.

Here's what happened, when i parked at the spot i noticed the meter said "FAIL"(it's a digital meter) and that there was a quarter stuck inside. Well I then went my way and when I came back which was about 30 minutes later there was a friggin ticket on my window! and the meter was fixed!

What is the law for broken meters? I live in NY.
I can get a ticket even after the meter was fixed while I was away from my car?? I was only gone for 30 minutes!

Do I have a chance to fight this ticket in court?

Can you prove the meter was broken at the time you parked? If not, you're most likely SOL and will just have to suck it up and pay.

Nope.

But I was wondering if they kept a record of all the defective meters and the the time for each meter fixed, because with that I can prob use that as evidence since it all happened within 30minutes.

ticket = 35bucks

i don't know what you make and it's none of my business but your probably better off as far as time and money just to take it booty and pay it. because I don't know how your court works but lets say you only make 10 bucks an hour for example . you take off 1/2 day of work to take care of this gay ticket. that's 40 bucks lost right here. so either way you're gonna lose money.

actually your best bet would be "appearing at court by letter"

just write a letter and represent yourself with it. I have had one that was obviously my fault but the judge reduced it down to $10.

good luck!

Can I park at a broken meter or at a space where the meter is missing?

If a meter is broken, you can park for a maximum of one hour, even if the posted sign is for a longer time period. If the meter is missing, you can park for the maximum amount of time posted on the signs.

good luck proving you stop there for less than an hour...
