Sad, but true.
70% (which is nearly clear) is all that is allowed.

yup thats true... not even worth getting tint at all. i just said screw it and got 5% on my rl. considering you live in NJ though, i would think twice. they would bust your chops all day long. i live right outside of philly and have NEVER had a problem. its the suburbs you gotta watch out for....

It's for my fiancee's car that is registered in PA. We're just going to go w/30%.

They might. PA inspection is crazy. I went through NJ and was in and out in 5 minutes, for free, and the guy barely checked anything. In PA you gotta pay and they check everything, down to the wiperblades and how well they work.

In & out in 5 min and they barely checked anything? You certainly didn't go to a state inspection station.

They haven't checked for tint at inspection in years in PA. I would say if you don't crazy and the car doesn't look ghetto you will be ok. I had 5% on my first car and was harrased a few times. Ever since then I have had 35% and have even got gas beside a cop and talked to him about my car and he didn't even care.

If she does get pulled over she will get a fix it fine. At that point she can either remove it or just hope to not get pulled over again

NO
They took it out of the inspection process about 7-8 years ago because the shops were complaining it wasn’t their responsibility to check for what was legal or not.
But a cop can pull you over at any time and check it with a meter.
114 dollar fine if you don’t rip it off and take the vehicle to be checked in 10-days.

I've only gotten one ticket in the last 20-years and I've run with 35% on all the car I've owned over that time.

My Subaru has 35% on the sides and 15% on the back.
Same for the Vette, but it looks darker because that car comes with 70% tinted glass from the factory.

Excellent news. I told her we'll get it done after inspection just to be safe though. 20% all around.

I say 20% has a good chance of getting you in trouble in NJ.

We're talking PA here not NJ.
