It's pipe insulation, it's designed to go around hot water pipes. I don't think the resistors will get that hot, but I will keep an eye on it. Thanks for the post

 

Good to know! Just wanted to make sure. We always recommend keeping the resistors away from soft plastics, rubber, etc etc, just to be safe.

I was going to mention the pipe insulation around the heat sink as well...

Isn't that counter productive to it's function? The heat sink is there to, well, sink heat out of the resistor and now you've gone and insulated it.

Seems like a quick way to a short life.

 

My goal was to protect it from rattling around and protect the wiring, the ends are still open for air movement. I don't think they're really being insulated to the point that it would damage something

Not to jump on with everyone else but yeah I would remove that pipe insulation so you don't cause it to overheat. Use some good 3M double sided tape to mount them to the body metal so they don't rattle.

 

Took a couple shots of the reverse lights at night, holy heck are they bright! They definitely help light up what's behind you and help the backup camera really see at night

I think you will have no problem seeing when you backup. You might get an ear full from someone if you have to reverse when they are behind you

 

Thanks to Nick C from @Diode Dynamics for the feedback. I went ahead and pulled the pipe insulation off of the resistors. The passenger side looked fine and didn't have any heat issues, the driver's side appeared to have started to melt the insulation so I'm glad that I went ahead and removed these after a couple days. Nothing too bad but definitely better to not cover them that's for sure.



I broke out some 3M double sided tape



And mounted the resistors to the metal body panels away from all the other wiring



Then tied up all the wiring. Simple house keeping, I should have just done this in the first place, but glad that I made the move after some input from you guys.

 

Just a small little mod, I installed my Tufskinz foam inserts into the center console. I went with black with the gray insert to match the black and gray dash. Quick and easy mod but it adds a nice contrast and will help protect the stock plastic which had started to get scratched up a bit. Before, as I was cleaning up the cupholders

And installed, I had originally thought about doing blue but thought it might look tacky, I'm really liking the accent look with the gray and black. Matches the dash nicely

 

just for functionality sake with that's awesome...
cleaning will probably be annoying though.

 

Yeah, I'm not sure how they'll clean up yet, but they're cheap enough that I'm not really worried about it if I need to replace them. It's a nice layer of protection

Mounting it on the metal surface like that will help with heat dissipation. Resistors themselves aren't that complicated. It's basically a block of ceramic material with an aluminum heatsink around it. Ceramics are not good conductors of electricity, so they essentially match the resistance created by the filament in the incandescent bulb.

Finally put the CanvasBack liners to good use, took big man to his yearly vet appointment on Saturday. Needless to say, there was dirty and hair everywhere, but he was very good and really loved having the big area in the back to chill in.







I also had the hitch stairs attached, however he didn't quite get the point and jumped in and out without them, but at least I tried lol

It was funny, I tried multiple times, even pointed and said go up the steps, because he knows what steps in the house are, he just did not get it

 

I'm hoping my older one will get it, she's the one who really needs it anyway

Those things are really made well and fit the back seats perfectly. Had to add the headrest flap and just ordered a bumper flap, but otherwise it fits my need perfectly

 

Just broke 10K miles on the truck yesterday. Had to take a pic at all 9's and then on to 10K






Almost 11 months to the day since I bought it. The shorter work commute has definitely lessened my mileage a lot. Today we celebrated at the dealership for her 10K month service, free oil change and had them do the state inspection while it was there. Passed with flying colors, even my tail light mods and smoked amber corners passed. Yay :gheywave:
