Out with the old, in with the new
So after having my 2009 335i break down on the side of the road, spending more than $1000 to fix it, and potentially spending another $1000 to get it into top running shape, I decided to get rid of it and get something new.
It's a 2014 335i, almost loaded, with...
Premium package
M Sport package
Dynamic handling package
Cold weather package
Technology package
Driver assistant package
Rear and side sunshades
Side top view camera
Harman Kardon sound system
M Sport brakes
Sport automatic
I decided to lease it this time.
And in case you guys wanna see a pic of my old one.

2014 looks amazing but curious like everyone else why you would buy(lease) the same car that just broke down on you

Was thinking the same as others. I'm going to guess OP really likes BMW and is insulated from repair costs by leasing which in theory should be all under warranty. This however doesn't cover the associated time and aggravation.

^ He didn't say exactly what broke, only that it cost $1000 to fix and needs another $1000 to get it back into top shape. I'm curious what actually broke, too.
Nice new 335i, but like everyone else, why push your luck with a BMW again?

Love the look of those new 3s with the m package. How was the lease deal on it?

Perhaps I missed something. Did OP say how often he had mechanical troubles with the previous car? How many miles were on it? The type of mechanical troubles he was now having?
Every car requires repairs at some point. Does that mean we should never buy a subsequent version of the same car?
There's a whole lot of knee-jerk going on in this thread.
ETA: Congrats, OP, on the new car.

Makes no sense financially to me but more power to ya. OTOH, that new hood line that fixes the Roundel to above the radiator instead of on the hood gives it a cheap ass look for that straight line vs. the curvy look of the old hood's leading edge.

Was it the injectors that failed? The HPFP? Turbos or turbo wastegate?
BMW is an expensive car to own bc the maintenance is REQUIRED due to cheaper components. For example the plastic cooling system on my 760 was replaced 2X at a cost of over 20K to 3rd party warranty company.
New 7-series are going through a quart of oil every 4K miles with less than 10K on the odometer. After my E65, the only BMW I'd get would be a lease.

Welcome to the club. You probably have already noticed that the Navi and Idrive in the 14' are so much better than E90.
Other than the once every 6 months "limp mode" that requires me to pull over and restart the car. My F30 has been pretty much problem free. But it seems that is for MY 12 and 13 only.
22xxx miles so far.
I get to drive different types of loaners when i take it to the dealers, so it is actually not a bad experience.
BTW: you will find a lot of hidden tech stuff that you will not see on the surface.

Thanks guys. It was a broken water pump that stranded me on the side of the road and I only had 59k miles on it. So since it's been out of warranty for the past year, I've had to replace the water pump, thermostat, low pressure fuel pump, one of the tail light housing, and an engine oil gasket leak. I just got tired of paying out of pocket for fixing an old car and wondering what else is gonna go wrong.
Yeah, I'm paying more in the long run for a new car but I was already thinking about doing this and the water pump pushed me over the edge.

Congrats on the new car. When these came out I priced one with everything I wanted on it and it was over $40k. The 3 is getting too expensive imo, but I guess the 3-Series isn’t the lower tier car it used to be now that BMW has placed models below it. Great looking car though, enjoy it.
I was considering a post-2008 335i M-sport for my next car until every Bimmer forum seemed to say don’t buy those cars out of warranty. Wish BMW had built them better, they looked nice. Huge improvement over the 2007-08 which I thought to be hideous.
That was my reaction as well ha

Curious to know what you got for a lease on this thing, I hear they are leasing out quite well...
