The decals shipped today. Should be about a week.
Picked up high heat primer, gloss black, and clear.
Just sanded up the covers, got them nice and textured...will apply the primer today or tomorrow.
Then, gloss black, the decals when they show up, and then clear over that.
Hopefully, this works out as Im not adept at knowing what to do for this kind of stuff.

hopefully Terry or someone can chime in on this.
I just applied the primer. The can says to apply coats within an hour in 10 minute intervals.
I applied two coats, looks good so far.
The can says, for any coats after an hour...wait 7 days for the paint to cure.
Soooo....should I wait before applying the gloss black?

If you don't mind me asking, how much were you quoted to PC the covers? I had my wheels done for less than $350 so I wouldn't think more than $100 or so for the covers.

7 days for paint to cure? Good lord that's a long time. I'm no paint pro like Terry but I would wait. Better to be safe than sorry.

Its dry now.
It just says to let the paint set.
Kinda like when you buy a brand new car...like right off the line, they say (or used to say) don't wash it for 30 days so the paint can set.
I talked to Terry...he said I should be good to go...so if I have time...gloss will go on tomorrow.

Just applied the 3rd coat of gloss....had a damn nozzle jam so I have one small spot on one of them that is a little uneven, but I don't think it will be noticeable to the naked eye.
Not sure how many more coats I'll do....kinda want to be done until the decals and the clear coat. But it depends on how this next coat dries I guess.

Well, this project might end being a total wash.
Not that I am master craftsman...but the covers looked pretty decent with primer and 3 coats of gloss...some imperfections, etc...but passable considering where they will be located.
Got and put the decals on today...pretty good...the fronts a little small for my taste...but the purple on black is dark enough, again its something subtle and not very noticeable...
The clear coat...not happy with it at all. Its drying with a texture, which I almost wouldn't be opposed to except that on 2 of the 4 pieces that texture is coming out unevenly...and on one piece its created more blemishes.
I'm waiting to see how it dries...but this might just be a failed project. Which is fine cause Im only out the cost of materials...which isn't much.

What type of clear are you using David?
Is it from a spray can?
The gloss that you're using, is it from a spray can as well? Was the gloss sanded when you applied the clear?

all 3 are spray...no sanding except to the surface prior to the primer. The gloss was super smooth.

I had put on the last gloss 24 hours prior...all looked good...oh well.

It appears the clear dried nice and smooth smooth. So, I'll give through to tomorrow and see how I like them.

Yep, that's what happens sometimes. Give them about three days. If you don't like them, then perhaps all is not lost. Sand them, just flattening the clear but not removing it, and then let them sit another day or two. Then clear them again.

Right now they look pretty acceptable.
I think getting into sanding, etc is beyond my skillset/experience. I'd just end up totally ruining them.

Believe it or not the script on the larger covers is actually...larger.
I wish I had known the size...I went the pictures on their site and it seemed larger.
Oh well.
The fact that the covers are black, and the letters are dark purple, Its going to be very hard to see anyway. Its just a very minor thing.
I'm gonna try it on for size, and if I don't like it...very simple to remove.
