Old Jetta, or S550. Which would you rather drive?

I couldn't help myself with this one. A guy selling a Jetta on Craigslist, and the title for his ad is "02 JETTA fasssttttt - $5000 (Brooklyn, NY)"

Pictures of the car look pretty stock, and then I read the ad.

"This car is fast. I drive a Mercedes S550 and this jetta is one of those cars where you would rather drive it than your $125,000 car. The car is cosmetically clean with 129k miles. Im a mechanic so everything has been tuned up and replaced all that needs to be done is for it to be driven away."

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/2603666812.html

So in the moment I figured what the heck, let's email him and see all the work he has done to this car. I asked is it manual, and has it been modded.

The reply I got was:

"The car is an automatic no mods but was owned by slow drivers that never went over 60 I've driven the car and my dad is sellin it. It has raw power. This is why he said he won't sell it someone who is really young and irresponsible. Money is not the issue its the driver."

Just thought it was all funny and I'd share.

It is I believe. Bone stock 1.8t auto is about as fast as my work van, possibly slower, and nowhere near as nice to drive as an s550.

I just emailed him:

Hi, I just came across your listing for the 2002 Jetta. You mention that you own an S550. Is that for sale at a severely reduced rate since you would rather drive a piece of automotive perfection that is the VW Jetta 1.8T? I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Ill post the reply once I get it

Being a mechanic can be a very lucrative career if you over charge and never do the work

I'd rather drive that than my Acura. Can't beat VW reliability.

My S4 never gave me a problem either. Only sold it due to financial hardships years ago.

I don't doubt there are plenty of VWs/Audis that are trouble free. But as a general pattern...

VW - Death from a thousand cuts.

Acura - Stranded on the side of the road and bloodied from a $3k repair bill.

Not sure which one I'd rather endure.
