OK! My son's 05 Altima 3.5SE 5MT profile is on drag times.

Seems like my son is always at the track with his ride. So I decided to post his Altima on Drag times: LINK

I have to say, for a car with 75k on the odo and a bent front wheel it runs pretty damn fast....and seriously faster than my old 02 Maxima 4AT.

The turbo setup put a hurtin' on the old D16 so now it needs a new motor, yada yada yada. If I cannot get it sold by next March, it "could" wind up as my daughter's first car but that would also mean swapping the motor. Right now it is just a giant paper weight in my driveway.

ZERO mods!! If he could get his 60' times down, I think he could pull a 14-flat (or dare I say a 13.9).

Nice time. I'm a firm believer that if I dumped some cash into my I35, it can be a fairly fast car.

...because he accidentally bent one of the Alti wheels and swap the fronts with a couple of my 5.5G wheels. Ironically, he ran quicker with the bent wheel and less aggressive (than the Falkens on the Max wheels) tread.

...and it need not be much cash. Just enough for headers, b-pipe, pulley and maybe a short ram.

He is actively shopping for some used R compounds or slicks. Despite his drag times, the current touring tires are pissing him off. Every time he goes to the track, I can expect a phone call from him complaining that he cannot get traction.

Zero mods? Those numbers seem a bit stretched...There is no way hes getting 275wtq out of a stock VQ35

Seriously, we just picked up this car used at a local NJ Nissan dealership and the only things notable about it is that it is a rare 5MT, is as basic a 3.5SE as you can get and had 75k on clock. Aside from that it is not modded. (Bare in mind, I did own a modded 02 Maxima SE so I am fairly confident that I could tell if the Alti was modded.)

Honestly, I am at a loss as to how quick his car is.

Yeah, I mean the WHP matches up, although it seems a tad bit high, but there is no way on earth he is putting down 275wtq out of a stock motor. That means the engine is pushing well over 300ft/lb...Probably a glitch in the dyno? Nice times though! Can't argue with that...

^^ could be a bum dyno. I should bring my 07 AV6 to same dyno and see what I get and if I get anything over 200lb-ft then we will KNOW the dyno is not reading right.

Sometimes dynos do weird stuff...but i'd imagine it can have about 240-250wtq. With that kind of torque, no wonder he's having traction problem!

I think the Altima would have around the same wtq too due to its FWD layout. It might make less at the crank, but less drivetrain loss makes up the difference. I believe 350z can keep making that torque for a longer time (ie, higher rpm), which is why there's a hp difference. According to Dave B these engines are very similar, and the ratings are there to attract different buyers or something like that.

Yeh. Already priced it out. But I'm not sure I want to dump it into a car with close to 100K on it.

Maybe its a factory freak. Not all engines are made exactly the same, and coupled with an inaccurate dyno he could be putting down more than normal.

Thanks for the complements on my son. I encouraged him to take full advantage of Etown being only 30 minutes away. To date, he has made more runs in his 3 months of ownership with the Altima than I have in my several cars combined.
