Helping a friend with some research. Which current generations of Mercedes Wagon are considered reliable (if any can be)?

Late 3rd Gen (W211) and newer are good. Even though the E-Class overall has staying power, I'd stay within the last 10 years...

From an old "Car and Driver" mag touting the Hammer:

"The payoff is 388 pound-feet of torque at 4500 rpm and 355 horsepower at 5500 rpm. That's 60 hp more than a stock European 5.5-liter Benz, and 125 hp more than America's hoo-boy 5.7-liter Vette. Just as important, the AMG engine in our test car whirred with no nasty quirks. Around town or flat out, it always slathered its ferocity with imperturbable smoothness. The Hammer we tested leaped from 0 to 60 mph in five seconds flat."

That's 90 less horsepowers and 102 less bhp than my GC and .9 slower to 60. I remember when this article was first read by me and it was impressive-then.

30 years ago a bone stock car that could do 0-60 in the sixes and the quarter in the 14's was hotness. Cars have never been better than they are today.

Sooo true, a car doing low to mid 6's back then made you take notice.. And in most peoples minds a sub six second 0-60 was supercar status, while today you have SUV's running in the five's..

go back 30 years and tell people that the Civic does it in the 6s and see what kind of laughter you get. Dont even mention the type-r (Car & Driver tested) 4.9

Absolutely. Which brings me to an old post of mine where I compared a Ferrari 308 to a Toyota Siena minivan in a 0-60 race, the van wins. lol

Very true, if I remember correctly the base Civic back in 1986 / 1987 had a 60HP engine and the Si model bumped that up to 91HP with a 0-60 around 9 seconds.. I remember because a friend was considering an Si or a Pontiac Fiero with it's 100HP engine.

I had a new 87 Mustang GT back then with a 5MT that had 225 HP and did 0-60 in around 6.1 seconds with a 14.5 in the quarter mile in stock form. And this was considered very fast back then for a stock car.... I changed the pulley, put on JBA headers, Ford Motorsport X pipe with Flowmasters, changed the roller rockers, put in 3.55.1 gears, a Kenne Bell ram air and a hurst shifter. With a set of street slicks I turned a 13.67 in the quarter and I was thrilled.. Today, my wife's 5000 LB Q7 will supposedly do a 14.2 @ 99 in the quarter right from the dealer. Boy how times have changed...

Sorry for hi-jacking, move this post if necessary..

The Proceed concept debuts a shape unlike anything Kia has ever produced. It bears a resemblance, especially up front, to the upcoming Kia Stinger sports sedan, and its body style recalls that of the Kia Optima Sportswagon, but the overall shape is more sloped and curvaceous, like a European shooting brake.

^Rear facing cargo seats? $68k sticker? Doesn't seem too bad, for a 330/350 TTV6.

yes it had the third row rear facing seat, making it a 7 passenger vehicle

I am going to get rid of my 12 wagon in the next 6 months so need a replacement

the E had fantastic front and rear leg room

thr only thing that is keeping me pulling the trigger is the rear design which makes it look like the wagon has Down syndrome in the rear

Yah considering a fully loaded 3/4 series are already over $60k.
$68k for an E class wagon is not bad at all.... as long as it is not the 4 banger.
