I'm actually not really a fan of the XF. That's an impressive car but it's not something I'd buy over an E63 Estate or the RS4/RS6 Avants.

I like it, but I don't LOVE it like I do the RS Avants.

Ah okay. Thought with your lust of the F-Type, you'd also like the XF lots too.

It's getting a little long in the toofs to be honest. Plus I think the class of car is too big. I'd actually prefer something more the size of the Golf VII wagon. I park in too many underground garages for a big wagon.

If I moved to Colorado though, I'd love a bigger wagon.

I saw a V60 today with the 19" Sport Package. Looked every but as good as I expected. Would love to go test drive one.

Speaking of Volvo, here's a great article comparing it with the Allroad and 328:

It is but it's not the one I'd want. I want that new e-Engine with the turbo and supercharger and 295hp mated to the 8-speed auto and AWD. That doesn't exist yet.

The BMW sounds like a great car and it is the best all around car in the test. But it bothers me when I read things like, "You don’t buy a modern 3-series for the value. Our $47,775 3-series was conspicuously missing satellite radio, Bluetooth audio, a backup camera, heated seats, navigation, and leather."

I just couldn't rationalize that. Even if it was a M-Sport.

How can that even be considered a luxury car? Acura would be crucified if they even attempted to sell a car like that, but it's BMW soooo....

Every time I visit my parents, I drag my dad to the Audi dealership and make him look at the Allroad. If I can't get one, maybe I'll convince him to get one

At this point, I think the B9 is going to be so much better that I'd wait. Which I'm doing anyway. I'm eventually replacing the Focus with a wagon. I prefer to stick my bike in the back of my car rather than use a rack. Plus the extra space is a lot more practical.

The bike is the reason I'm considering another hatch or wagon. Putting my bike in the back of the Civic is getting quite old

Audi's made a huge leap in overall quality and the Allroad is rated extremely high in overall reliability. Volvo has also made a huge improvement as well.

I've seen a few V60s on the road and they look great. I'm really curious to see with the B9 Allroad looks like ... Plus the V60 really needs the S60's new e-Drive SC/T 4-Cylinder.

I also keep hearing rumors that some sort of 4Motion Golf Sportwagen is definitely coming to the US. So that might be an option too.

I figure the Golf Sportwagen 4Motion would be $28-40K and then the Allroad and V60 are $35-50k.

I just need to be patient and wait another year or so to see what shakes out.

From what I've read, the Allroad is so good that a used one is probably a better choice than a new GSW 4Motion. But I'd probably drive a 328d, Allroad, V60, and Sportwagen to decide which is best for me.

The Allroad platform is six years old. Even though the car would be pretty new, I don't know that I'd want to put $40k into technology that old.

Just remember, dont even try to drive any 3 series without M sport.

Because you will leave feeling like "That's it?"

any F3X without M sport:

Exterior: Sucks
Interior: Sucks
Steering wheel: Sucks
Steering wheel: fat and sucks
Suspension: soft and sucks
Wheel/tires: 17" All season run flat: Expensive and sucks

make sure you try the M sport with Adaptive M suspension. That is what BMW should feel like.

I have a feeling the C-Class estate is going to be even more expensive than the eye-watering 328i/d.

I'd keep the Focus ST rather than go Subaru. I just don't like their exterior or interior design. I don't understand what I'm getting for $30K on an Outback.

It will probably come down to new GSW 4Motion or V60 vs used Allroad.

Let's put it this way

The difference between the old E46/E90 Non M sport/ M tech and 3 series M sport/M Tech is probably only 25%

The difference between the F30 M sport with adaptive M suspension and Non M sport is 50%+.

In the E46 or E90 there is no Mode to choose. If you had M sport, then the car is M sport 100% of the time.

In the F30, Sport+ is what feels like the old BMW. But the thing is:
1. default mode is always in comfort, regardless what mode u were in before you turn off the car.
2. You can only get Sport + mode in Sport or M sport.

It changes the suspension feel, steering feel, both brake and gas pedal response, RPM goes up faster, exhaust is louder, pretty much change the whole car.

Okay...FWIW, I've driven the 2011 Legacy GT and think it's awesome. It's well-acquainted interior-wise...nothing ultra-sexy but it works.

I mean, it's not my TOP choice for a wagon...but, it'd definitely be in my consideration list if price was a huge factor.

Okay wow...some nice insight. I'm not all that up-to-speed on the difference the M sport package has on the line-up. But, eek...

Cross that bridge when I'm looking to replace my beluga sea cucumber.

Well it's not an option. They don't sell Legacy wagons in the colonies. Just Outbacks with the 2.5L NA 4-banger or the 3.6L 6-cylinder.

Neither of which really excite me. At at $36K for a 3.6R with Nav, that's not really a good deal IMO.
