So pretty much every car from the Big 4 has one. Are they event data recorders as in the record the last 15 minutes before the incident, or does it continuously monitor your driving behavior and save it for several days?
Like I said in my original post, I don't have any problems with it being used to resolve accidents. However, I don't want my insurance to increase my rates just because they caught me flooring it or aggressively driving my car, or for the dealer to void my warranty if my car were equipped with GPS, and it discovered that I went to a legal race track.
That would be a hassle, but it sounds like a good idea.

The problem/issue here is that the GTR has one that records for several DAYS.
Well, I hope it's your exhaust that is causing the CEL, and not something like bad plugs or other things that might be detectable with the OBD reader.

I hate this stuff, as I'm a firm beleiver that it's against our constitutional right to "plead the fifth"... or not incriminate ourselves in a crime... It's being passed as a "safety" issue, so everyone except auto enthusiasts are for it...
You can't fight "Big Brother" (a reference to Orwell's 1984 novel)....

I hope you all realize how corrupt large multi-national corporations are. They are pushing Congress by lobbying for this legislation so that they may use it to save money denying warranty claims.
This is ludicrous our rights are being denied so that large multinational corporations can benefit with increased profits.

That's not going to solve anything. What we need to keep our roads safe is a system where you have to provide your car with a urine and blood sample before you can start it that way we can make sure that you haven't smoked weed, taken pills, or just mainlined a big syringe of the china white.
No really, it actually would be a hassle now that I think about it. I didn't know how those Intoxalocks worked in theory, I guess I was being overly optimistic by thinking it would help prevent DUI accidents, but seeing as how it detects alcohol below the legal limit, that would be annoying as hell.
or are you being sarcastic too?
fucking car talk.... I can't tell when its this crowd.

Ouch. I would fight it. Maybe because it's a new model and that the elite will be driving it, he may be able to get Nissan to work with him. Although, in my past experience Nissan is not GREAT with throwing you a bone.

This seems phony to me but if true I have lost all respect for Nissan. You just don't offer a feature in a car that you are unwilling to back up with a warranty. That shouldn't even be legal. If they don't want to warrant the launch control then they shouldn't have offered it on the car. Big thumbs down if this is true. Shame on you Nissan.....

The GTR has a weak tranny, so they make sure you are running with the VDC on. You take it off and use the LC you void the warranty! This way they can advertise and sell a "supercar" with all it's gadgets, but if you use them it's at your own risk. Most repairs are not covered if misuse is invoved from any car company, Nissan just has everything in place to prove you were 'abusing" (as they say) the car.
With all the new developments since the GTR came out, can't change rims, GPS, blackbox data, don't ever turn off VDC or use LC, called out by Porsche on their Ring time... this may really hurt Nissan's sales and image. It's a cool car, but if you can't touch or change anything about it without screwing something up or worrying about a $20k tranny replacement, all you have is an expensive daily driver.

I personally think the warranty issue is a little dumb but I can see where it comes from. Besides you shouldn't be using it on the street anyways, and its just like if you take your car out on the track or drag strip and wreck it, your insurance won't cover it.
I could take my TSX, rev it up to 4500 the fuel cutoff and drop the clutch multiple times. It has the ability to do it, but if I blow up the tranny or clutch I think it would be unreasonable to expect Acura to fix it on warranty, same shit.

wackness. if this is true that is. and a brand new car that costs 70k shouldnt be going to the shitter that fast even if he was launching.

This reminds me of the N54 overheating thing right after it came out, but a lot worse if it is true. But like that, I think only time will tell if these stories are even true, or if the problem is as straight-forward as they seem. If Nissan is in fact voiding warranties because VDC is turned off or LC is used, well then they suck.
zguy95135 - I agree, but launch control is a feature of that car. The instance you describe is you forcing the car to launch. Nissan gives you a little button that performs a function, then asks you not to use it. A better analogy would be to say Nissan will void your car if you use the A/C. If LC is going to cause the GTRs tranny to explode they should...you know, not put it on the car.

Just got through that thread. Even if the OP is lying it seems like a lot of legit owners have some pretty serious gripes about the car. :/ There are 3 registered owners in that thread alone who say they have had tranny issues.

Anyways, back on topic, seems like this isn't the first time for the GTR, other GTR owners are already experiencing this. Poor guy...

Why make a car with options like LC and the ability to turn VDC off yet it seems as though its not strong enough to handle it. Also to offer options like that but yet to VOID warranty by using them is complete BS
#114
I just think denying a warranty based on the owner using a feature which is provided by the manufacturer with no real written or even implied instructions (and was mentioned by Nissan in just about every piece of PR they produced about the GTR) is kind of weak.

I believe this story because if you use launch control, your warranty is void. Nissan has great confidence in this vehicle.

I've never owned a Nissan, but I can honestly say that wanting to put the GT-R on my list of toys is never going to happen.

hmm. if it states it under the warranty, this is the own guys fault. fair is fair.
is wrong for nissan to have a feature like this? perhaps.
was the consumer aware of this before purchase? yes.
does nissan clearly state that warranty is void if you turn off this feature? absolutely.
it's tempting to turn it off but the owner has to use it at their own will.
thats like blaming big tobacco for getting cancer. the warning sign is right there on the pack.
be responsible for your actions.
