Proud new owner of an '07 CBR1000RR

bike only has 6K miles on it.

DISCLAIMER: the swing arm is looking for a new home ASAP... I might actually just trade with somebody if they choose to do so.

bike is very quick and very minty. I skipped the 600 phase and will be taking a very slow and cautious approach to the 1000cc world. so far im loving it though.

CONS: it has GP style shifting (1 up and 5 down) and its not growing on me so far. Im going to give it more time, though.

^ See, I found that the smaller bikes are actually more fun to ride... so I'd take a 600 over a 1000. Being so much lighter makes them easier to ride quickly... and I don't care about straight-line speed on a motorcycle.

My broken left clavicle, first ride of the year. Was not paying attention when riding in a group of 3 when we turned onto a straight country road.
Looked briefly to the left (at a corn field no less) then ahead, the 1st bike had stopped at a stop sign only 150' from the main road.
I braked too hard locked up the front, low sided, and fell on my left shoulder.

Wearing helmet, padded ballistic nylon jacket, gloves, jeans and boots. Some road rash on left knee but shoulder was main injury.

1st accident ever in 30 years, feel stupid for such a foolish mistake.
My only advise, wear lots of protection. Boots and gloves saved my feet and hands.

Should be OK in 6-8 weeks according to my orthopedist.
Could have been worst and I'll learn ALOT from this and be hopefully be riding my mid/late summer.

Heal up soon! It sucks to go down, but it sounds like this one was relatively mild in the grand scheme of things.

I was looking for a 600 actually.. But a personal friend was selling this one for less than what used 600 bikes go for here. This bike will go well beyond the speeds that I'll ever take it.

I'll also have the choice to easily sell it if I feel it's just a bit too much bike after a while.
Speed was certainly not a factor in the purchase though.

starting to mesh with the bike finally. I've been getting out and doing some nice evening rides on a local road that follows a river.

the power of the 1000 is still intimidating but im getting used to the throttle and weight of the bike. still have that dumb stretch on, but should be off soon.

I can only imagine how much better it will feel after its back to stock length.

So this is a popular video going around right now and it has riders split.

What we DO know from the video:
This rider and a buddy are traveling down this road when the driver of the white pickup decides to cross into their lane (at this point it could be not paying attention or intentional).

The rider then slows down and makes a U-Turn (presumably to give a piece of his mind to the driver of the truck) <-- which is not the best idea but we've all either wanted to do it or have done it at some point.

-As the rider turns around we can tell (and hear) the truck has spotted him making the U-Turn and decides to join in on the conversation.
The pickup driver comes to a screeching hault in what appears to be the beginning of a not-so-pleasant conversation.
-Now we have ourselves a classic road rage confrontation.
-Once we can hear the conversation start, we gather that mother is angry about something prior to this even in the form of either speeding or noise of some sort in front of their residence.
-Driver of the pickup then exits his truck and approaches the biker (this is the part where he lost my vote)
-we don't really gather that much more detailed info of why the driver of the truck did what he did, but we do know that he's bringing the well-being of his kids into the situation, which could be what the woman was referring to earlier.
-2nd rider finally approaches the scene and basically introduces himself as Mr. fuck-that.

now my thoughts on it are there were mistakes made by both parties throughout the video.. what I don't get though, is if your main gripe with these riders was you and your children's well-being, why then decided to load them all up and seemingly (seek out) the offenders, drive into oncoming traffic endangering everyone on board's lives, and then proceed to exit the vehicle in the middle of the road and approach a stranger (who could be concealed carrying) and start a confrontation with your family in the parked truck next to it.

with all of that said... you can ignore everything I gathered from the video and just watch some dude headbutt the shit out of a trucker that swerved into a rider's lane to run him off the road.

side note: The next day, the same two bikers came across the same guy passing them on the road, he managed to throw a glass bottle out the window at them. Im not sure if that video is still up or not.

Have to say, the gentleman driving truck lost my vote when he swerved into the oncoming lane. The reason I say that he lost my vote then, is that it looked from the video, or sounded from the conversation, to be intentional. If he (the truck driver) was concerned for his family's welfare, it seems that calling the police would have been the smarter thing to do. Again, based on what I saw/heard, was what you said Rockstar; "Once we can hear the conversation start, we gather that mother is angry about something prior to this even in the form of either speeding or noise of some sort in front of their residence."

It seems clear that the people in the truck new enough about the bikers, to identify that these were the same guys who did something jeopardizing their family's welfare. So, based on that, they should have been able to give the police a good enough description, possibly a full license plate id for the cops to identify them.

Ahh, I'm rambling. Anyway you look at it, it's a bad situation all around. A shame to see, glad no one got seriously injured.

As I spoke with more people about it last night (yesterday was bike night and everyone had seen it) I realized that I'm also pretty surprised that the two riders didn't take the violence further considering the danger he just put them in.

I've never faced that type of situation, but another foot to the left and that truck would have killed one or maybe both of them. The fact that he drove off with just a headbutt is probably best case scenario for him.

Just going by the video I'm with the riders.

If the driver was pissed at something prior there is no need to endanger his family or the rider by driving into oncoming traffic. Just get the police involved.

The reason why the people in the pickup are so angry is because the biker(s) was driving 174mph past their home in a residential area, and they felt their kids were in danger.

Not an appropriate reaction from the pickup driver but the motorcyclists are not innocent.

not innocent from wrongdoing at all.

Also not a neighborhood, they just happen to live off a highway. even cars doing the speed limit are life-threatening.. don't let your kids play on the highway.

I think the noise is what pissed them off more than well-being.

So i checked out the R1 the other day, very disappointed in the lack of undertail exhaust and the funky looking front end. I loved it in pics and the technology is incredible but I don't know. Actually works out better this way, I can now shop used because I can't see dropping 17k on a new one, especially because it's ugly.

I don't understand why all bikes don't have under-tail exhausts. it just cleans up the side of bike so much.

Honda even switched back to it on the newest bikes. I was never a fan of side exit.

Open subframe with an undertail exhaust = HEAT

I have a black D675 and it's gets uncomfortably HOT. I wished Triumph would have designed a heat shield for the subframe. I'm glad I spit out two kids otherwise, I'd been sterilized by the heat that mid pipe puts out

all the heat from my bike comes when the fans kick on. my legs start cooking after about 10 seconds.. but when riding, I don't even notice any.

Probably the best save of all time

Amazing save for Moto3 rider in Sunday's race
Loved it when he kept riding across the finish line on his kneepads!

How you liking your FZ-09? I picked one an FZ-07 last year (white). I really enjoy riding it, but it is a very different experience from my previous bikes (2001 600 F4i & 2007 ZX-6R).
