Im thinking about picking up a commuter bike. Particularly a new CB500F:

The local dealer has two CBR500Rs, which I sat on. I like the feel (I believe the CB500F has the same ergonomics), but I don't really like the fully faired version. Similar weight and power to my Hawk, but 70mpgs is very appealing (and about 25mpg better then the Hawk). I could fill the tank for about $15 and run it the entire week to and from work. I told the dealer to let me know when they get one in. I'd love to test it out. The downside is that being a new bike, Im not sure how much the dealer is willing to negotiate.

And what is it with Honda??? If you want the ABS version, you have to get it in black. I want ABS. I also want it in white.

I was also looking at the cb500f, reviews seem to be pretty good and the price is nice. Im sure you can't go wrong with it... and I doubt you'll be able to negotiate.

My buddies just picked up a Monster 1100 EVO and a Streetfighter 848... getting motorcycle envy...

Tried installing the bar ends as well, but couldn't get the phillips screw off. In the process may have stripped the head. Need to see if the shop can get it done for me without having to replace the right clipon.

I hate those damn screws on the bar ends. I destroyed mine on the Hawk. I ended up dremeling a slot into the top of them (it cut into the factory bar ends but I didnt care) and then used an impact driver on them.

I put bar end mirrors on the Hawk so I didnt really care that the ends were cut up. And instead of using the expansion collar to secure the mirrors in the clip on (which kept vibrating loose), I put the bar weights back in, cut the bar ends down to use as a spacer, and screwed the mirrors right into the weights. Much more secure now.

Oops, didn't realize the pics were messed up in my previous post. Fixed now.

Yea, those bar end screws are no joke. Either they use some crazy strong thread lock on them, or they were made by the same material as Thor's hammer and only he can move it.

Yea, not a fan of being a squid. i always wear my protective gear when riding, even if it is around the block. You are protecting yourself from other's actions, not just your own.

Speaking of protectiv gear, picked up the optional armor pieces for my textile jacket on the way home.

Edit: helmets protect you from dying, jackets protect you from road rash.

at 25/35 mph, I'll just stick to wearing my jacket on work commutes and and daily attire on runs to the store.

No argument here, just the way ruckus cruises are generally treated.

I wear leathers on my dad's old shadow.

Pretty sure civicdrivr was thinking more along the lines of this:

I think it's pretty cool... but it just doesn't flow. Front is 80's mini truck looking with the teal/purple on the plastics and the blue wheel, then the rear is retro-bobber style with the wheel, whitewall tire, and exhaust. I think if it had one theme it would be pretty sweet.

Thanks. I bought the rear end 2nd hand. I haven't had a chance to match up the tires/wheels yet.

ruckus parts burn holes in the wallet faster than you think.

its come a long way over the last few months though. it was basically stock with purple wheels and drag bars not long ago.

FZ1, Z1000, or CB1000r?
Any opinions on these rides? Looking to buy new here in a month or so.
Leaning towards the Z1000.
Thanks

Anyone have any experience with Akrapovic slip-ons? Just wanted to get some feedback before I decide to pull the trigger on one. Yoshi exhaust is my 2nd option. Based on some videos that showcase the sounds of the exhausts, the Akrapovic IMO sounds the best. I would love to have a full system on my bike, but don't want to deal with the stupid California motorcycle exhaust laws.

I had an akra slip-on on my GSXR600 and I loved it. High quality exhaust and they sound amazing in person (not a lot of compliments). I had a carbon fiber and had no issues with it. It was probably one of my most favorite mods.

IMHO, yoshis are nice and well made, but too quiet.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about getting the titanium version myself. I wish most of the manufacturers offered a version without the CF endcap. I'm not big on carbon fiber at all. And over a long period of time it may yellow.

Also, i'm hoping the Yoshi Exhaust Bracket works with the Akra slip-on because I also want to do a passenger peg delete.

The Akra sounds great and I agree, carbon is top notch. I ended up going with a blue flame high mount on my R6 but the Akra was a close second. As for the peg delete, I ground off the standard exhaust mount on my passenger peg and had it power coated black but I am assuming you could grind off the peg on yours (don't know what your pegs and mounts look like but...). It looked completely stock and everyone asked where I got them. Best part was, I could have left it the standard finish and no one would have known or could have polished it.

Rockstar - We actually have a white Ruckus for the horse shows and that thing has been absolutely beat and not taken care of plus had myself and two other girls riding around the shows on a regular basis with no problems (I'm 170 and the girls were 100 and 110 lbs so no a ton of weight but 3 on the bike is a feat). That Ruckus is a beast but like someone else said, it just doesn't flow but keep up the mods and prove us wrong.

Hmmm, didn't think about shaving it off and getting the bracket repainted. Will have to think about that. Thanks for the tip.

I don't visit this thread enough - but damn. My itch for a motorcycle just isn't going away, and now I find out about the CB500F/R. I'm not a huge fan of naked bikes, but the CB500F looks good.

I went from wanting a Ninja 250R > CBR250R > Ninja 300 and now I'm torn between that and a CB500. A couple of my friends have told me to start off on something like a 250 to get the basics down. These guys also have instructor-guided track experience under their belt. I definitely don't want a super sport for my first bike, but will a 500cc compromise too much? I know the odds of me being bored with it are lower...

Ruckus is also cool, they look like a lot of fun. I actually don't mind the theme, though like others the rear wheel/tire seems off to me. sounds kinda mean for 49cc too, heh

also the fender eliminator looks great Anil. What's up with those ones that are tucked in close to the frame? Those look odd, while yours looks factory.

The CB500F is comparable to the first bike I started out on - and still have, so I guess Im not bored of it

Get something you feel comfortable on, in traffic with assholes that arent paying attention to you.

And Im really considering picking up the CB500F. I love the way it looks and that it gets 70mpg.
