The Official Honda S2000 Thread
Ok, i'm looking for some advice. There is a 2003 red 2 owner at the local honda dealer for $24k with 30k miles. It has sat for over a year in their showroom. This seems to be the going price for this car, or is it? I had test driven one a few years ago, but almost felt car sick at that time, it might be the same if i decide to take another look. Is there anything that i need to look out for?
With that mileage .. not much to look at .. but, further down the road:
Retainers, more frequent valve adjustments, keep an eye on oil consumption.
Good luck and post pictures!

@dallison if your first impression was a pass I would think long and hard on whether or not you want one. It's a rewarding car but it does have it's drawbacks.
$24 grand is a lot for an AP1...they're using the low mileage to justify it but you know, it's a Honda...would you be cool with 100K for half the price? Things to ask
yourself. There were oil starvation and rear differential issues that were remedied with the AP2 (looks aside)...
2.0 9K redline AP1
2.2 8400 redline AP2...

Almost everyone I know who gets carsick (like, throw up-sick) doesn't get vertigo or nausea when they drive, you'd be a first
I think it was because of the ride. I have driven in a boxster and miata and didn't have issues at all. This was 6-8 years ago so things could be better or worse. The last time i had any car sickness was in the rear seat of a buick roadmaster. i couldn't see over the seats and it was just miserable.
Good descriptive video. Whatever i get won't be tracked but driven hard enough in spirited drives. The low mileage scares me a bit since it wasn't driven much. It has been sitting for over a year so it's going to start leaking or something. These places are a bit ambitious in their pricing.
Thanks for the info.

that's good to hear about it sitting. I thought it was really over priced too.
Hells no, that's vastly overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $17k, $18k at a stretch for that one. You can get an AP2 with that many miles for that price and I'd recommend you do. The AP2 solves a lot of the issues that the AP1 had and is a worthwhile thing to get.
I wouldn't worry about the car sitting. I bought a 2004 with 39k miles on it back in 2015 and ran it for 4 years and 12k miles with zero issues. It was stored and sat idle for 7 months of the year and started first time you turn the key and push the button every time without issue. No leaks, no weird quirks, nothing. Only thing to worry about are the tires and the battery, mechanically the car is solid.

I'm finally, after 11 years, going to upgrade my audio system.
Alpine CDE-HD149BT with all the Modifry bits and pieces for it to work with dash controls. Haven't settled on amplifier (if needed), speakers, and I'm debating a subwoofer.

I've got the OEM HU with a USASpec iPod adapter (the super old like 30 pin one....) and wish I had bluetooth every once in a while. The stock setup isn't even audible under volume 20.
Hahaha, yeah, it's obnoxiously loud (SoS Stage 2 + Greddy Spectrum Elite + Berk 70mm test pipe)

If you're after the "less is more" approach...try the alpine with the modifry dci or whatever it's called...
then add this:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Takes the RMS from 22 to like 45...and it's literally plug and play with the Alpine head unit, zip ties on passenger side under knee kick panel.
I also did the JL Audio entry level components which fit into the stock speaker locations perfectly (including tweeter) but
try adding just the amp to the stock blue speakers and see if you're happy first.
I also added an all in one sub in the trunk since I already had it. I can now hear and feel my music with top down going 85mph without issue
and it's not obnoxious and I didn't break the bank.

Sure thing, man.
I was after the same thing...I just wanted to hear my music too. Engine sounds great but why can't we have both!
It's a logical step to upgrade one at a time...grab any of the alpine bluetooth and that amp...if you're happy, great...if not, speakers then sub.
The model that ends with "A" is plug and play...the one that is "U" is universal if you want to bridge or get fancy. I wanted it easy in and easy out
with minimal space lost. It did the trick.

Short ~8 minute old silent video (mute the audio it's just some music mixed in) of S2000 production. Amused as this was at Honda's Takanezawa plant but at a different facility than the NSX.
Sawai and the other S2000 team were kinda shocked when they got this dimly lit and cramped semi-automated line compared to the much more spacious NSX facility.
Can see how the S2000 was semi-hand and semi-automated assembly.

Thanks for posting that.
I'll give it a watch tonight.
As my only Honda product now, I have a special appreciation for it's simplicity and reliability.
Love this brand...so does my daughter.

Here's the thread!
I've been stock piling parts that need to be installed -
Alpine CDE-HD149BT
Alpine KTP-445A
Modifry DCI + Speaker Rings + PnP Harness
OEM CR Front sway
OEM CR PS Braces
OEM CR Badges
GripTec 3.0" Pulley for SoS kit (micro-abrasion grooves cut into the ribs)
Working on figuring out speakers and maybe sub/enclosure and have still be hesitating on getting a header (J's Racing)

We done told you, Samuel!
Dude, I'm telling you, I have a million times that I think I'm ready to holler at Johnny or a few other friends that want to buy it...
and I hold off. Summertime here with no curvy roads is not a good time to choose to sell. Then as soon as it's cool out...
bam...I'm like you fucking moron why did you do that. At least I kept it in the family with Chip buying it but still.
My buddy had a friend stop by yesterday with his newly purchased one. Gorgeous!
Inspired me to look at exhausts and turbahs and wheels today. Must resists! I should just wash and
wax mine and drive it more.

I still think it was the right decision to sell it off. With baby inbound it would get even less use that it did as it was. Jeep is still a lot of fun but certainly not in the same way the S2k was.

If I lived somewhere with curvy roads and trails
I would have bought a decent TJ Rubi cash and
kept the S2000. Plus, with cost of living so low,
I'm certain you could have kept it and been fine
financially!
Ironically enough I have a sentimental attachment
to mine because I bought it the day before we got
a + on the pee stick

I did pick up some goodies for cheap on Friday though...
After seeing the "other" Rio that is low mileage and pristine at the dealership and
all the meets I realized there's an aspect to modding my weekend car that I miss.
Every once in a while I miss not having a soft top (have CR tonneau) and every once in a while I'll miss not being closer to stock height(scraping and such) but boost? Definitely worth it. SoS kit has literally been flawless with the exception of one of the ring clamps getting worn out and needing to be replaced.
