Take solace in this...
you will not have any idea what you're doing.
nobody else has any idea what they are doing either.
keep the kid alive. that's it, you can't even fuck this up.

Installed a new timing chain tensioner today from Ballade. First thing I've 'had' to do this car in years.

Yeah, I ended up with the Billman GenX on both my S2000. Easy ass install...
it is OEM, just rebuilt with a different spring that supposedly keeps the chain more taut as you go higher in the rpm range IIRC.

Is there any indication that this needs to be done or is it just a preventative thing?

totally preventative...supposedly it'll make a rattling noise if your tensioner is on it's way out...and knowing honda, you can probably still sleep on that for another 100K miles

Mine made the rattle once, it sounds like a card going through wire wheel spokes. It didn't cost me very much and I enjoyed doing it. Took me under an hour including listening to music, dealing with my dogs trying to inspect my every move etc.

God, looking at S2000s is making me tempted again. Yes, I still miss my S2000 2 1/4 years later. Of course, I can mod my NSX with both a S2000 dash cluster (a guy makes a plug and play wiring setup for the NSX!) and a S2000 wheel (smaller than the almost school bus sized NSX wheel, LOL) and at that point, I may miss it less.

It is interesting to know that you still miss your S2000 after upgrading to the NSX. My goal is to upgrade one day as well but it seems it might be worth it to add the NSX and keep the S2000. I keep going back and forth about selling then I jump in and take a drive and that thought goes out the window. The S2000 is a really solid fun car.

Unless you take a sawzall to the roof, I doubt you'd fully scratch that itch!

It's funny...you are one of a number of people I've heard say the same thing re: NSX vs S2000.

Lots of s2000 owners have "upgraded", only to come back.

Not at all saying the s2000 is the pinnacle of sports cars, but they really got it right in delivering a driving experience that hits all the senses.

You can get cars that are more powerful, have modern convinces, or are more recognizable, but the s2000 is still hard to beat when it comes to putting a smile on your face.

My goal is to have another S2000 AND the NSX ultimately. A lot of NSX owners who graduated from the S2000 come to that conclusion. Don't get me wrong, my NSX is amazing, just amazing and it never fails to put a smile on my face. My only actual planned/budgeted mods for it this year are to upgrade suspension to KW V3 and to add a Wings West lip for style (plus it's polyurethane, it's nigh on indestructible).

But I will eventually buy another S2000. I've driven Lambos (Gallardos specifically), Ferraris, and other high end cars but the S2000, even with no low-end torque, stands out as one of the most special driving experiences I've ever had. That says something about the car. In short, I agree with Jdrum1.

would the NSX be used as almost like a cruiser sports car whereas the S2K is more of a quick play car... to put it another way... if you wanted to have some fun for a few hours you would take the S2K, but if you were to go on a road trip, you would take the NSX instead?

The S2000 is a great little go kart.
It's not a car.
That's why it's foolish to try and replace it with a car.
Everyone needs a car and a go kart.

Personally, for me, if I wanted to have fun for a few hours, I'd do the S2000. If I wanted to take a road trip, I'd still take the S2000.

Mostly because I don't have a NSX...

I plan on buying Billman TCT. He uses the stock core and modifies it.

Just picked her up. Not my first s2k. Had a spa yellow six years ago.

Conrats!
What's your impression of AP1 over AP2 now?
Gorgeous example...
I get stopped all the time with offers to buy. Nope, not for sell.

Also, very exciting but CURT finally made a tow hitch for the S2000. No more freaking out about putting a bike rack on the trunk.

Thanks! Do not sell your s2000. Clean ones are becoming so hard to find. I searched for two months daily all over the US. I truly believe they are starting to become collectibles. As far as AP1 vs AP2, I definitely prefer AP2 and here's why.

Styling: AP2 looks more modern and agressive
Performance: Although 9k is nice, it is not like I hit that range very often, the AP2 provides better low and mid range torque, so better suited for daily driving.

Awesome! I love white on the S2000. Great pick up.

Also, I agree with your assessment. Every time I think about selling, I just can't bring myself to do it.

You have no idea...

Jeep has been fun for the winter since we got a lot of snow this year but I'm excited to actually drive something rather than just tool around town.

I'm assuming the "fluids" you're referring to are in your body and the "it" is a raging hard on that lasts for more than 4 hours?
