Definitely more likely to be wheels/tires than the buckets. Sticky weights just aren't as secure as hammer weights, also.

Assuming tires are new and not worn unevenly, like scalloped or feathered.

Recently installed rear tires and balanced all 4 and now I am having vibrations around 65-75 mph. I suspect an improper balance at this time. Also my rear end feels unstable. Did some reading and it turns out I have break in the new tires. Reason enough for me drive the car daily this week

after 65-ish, it vibrates whether on on throttle, off throttle or braking..

height change didn't alter it at all. im going to throw my stock wheels on today and drive home, if they don't vibrate, the new wheels will already be off the car and i'll run them to the shop before they close.

thanks for the input guys.

also, im going to buy the axles spacers regardless. I've read that even when the axles aren't the culprit, the spacers help prolong the life of axles anyways.

and for $100, I cant find a reason not to run them.

If its happening on and off throttle, its the wheels.

Are your new tires happen to be the V12 Evo?

i had something similar on my s2000 with the V12 Evo and i only replaced the rear also (front ones were V12 Evo also at about 60%)

it was so scary at 60mph+ on the fwy, i had to pull over to check if they were flat.
the full break-in period was about 1500 miles.

I have the same set on my 335i and they were fine since day 1. The break in period is a lot less dramatic than s2000.

Maybe because of the weight or maybe uneven thread (new match with old) but it took me a while to get rid of the "driving on snow" feeling.

yes.
it is one high maint. bitch but when she knows how to make you happy.

I'd suspect it is very similar to NSX. It is precisely engineered car. So you will feel every little difference if it is not the same as stock.

Morgan is back!

Welcome

So, I drove my car for the first time in 3 1/2 weeks after traveling abroad and yes, it was absolutely orgasmic - it really puts you in perspective after driving 1.2L Opel Corsas & Peugeot 208 diesels every day over the course of 1700 miles

No real updates other than destroying my driver-side door & unibody after tagging a pole pulling out of my parking spot

I already went ahead and purchased an GPW AP1 door and plan on swapping over all of the electrical, windows / window regulator / rails, switches, and etc - Good news is it has OEM paint & no dents.

I'll address the unibody repair at another time, so far it's not looking like an easy task.

Anybody have any insight on that?

Which broad were you traveling?

As far as the damage, post a pic. The car sounds totaled though. I'll buy it from you for $100, for...you know...parts.

I traveled all over Croatia and I must say, women there are stunning to look at

I have an excellent girl back home and while I was tempted, not just any girl would volunteer to help you swap out the driverside door on your car .

Door will be replaced, unibody is dented pretty deep - see pic:

Thanks Jin!

While I like entertaining the idea of going in October, the car is in need of some work before I put it through it's paces once again.

To do list:

Clutch - feels like it's getting a bit tired. No idea when it was last changed, but it slips on quick high rev shifts.

Tires - Ventus V12 Evo2s are good for every day use, but I wouldn't want them on a track day. I'd like to invest in different wheels & more aggressive tire setup and alternate when necessary.

Coilovers - Old & mushy Form and Function Type 2s ... enough said

Really considering KW or a Bilstein / spring combo, just don't have that kind of cash to throw around. I've heard decent ratings on BuddyClub, I'd just prefer getting a higher quality suspension setup and be done with it.

Bushings - The car just turned over 130,000 and I think a wide range of bushings could be replaced, car still feels pretty tight but I think there's improvement to be made.

Only if you get Eiffel towered by Tyler and myself - Tyler sandwich.

Despite the car being hit with an ugly stick a bit, I love this thing .. it's almost become more than "just a car".

i had coils and it was just too much as a DD.

I had Tein S tech on my G35 and felt like stock. so i tried the S tech on S2000, felt like stock, which was exactly what i wanted. I did not want it to be any stiffer.

other than ride height, it did absolutely nothing. better or worse.

I was about to post this as I saw the discussion on S2KI. He parked it on the street, at night, IN REDDING, which is well known to have a car theft problem, and walked home. What could go wrong? I feel sick for him at this loss, but it's likely already stripped.

I don't know what he was thinking. Its not a pleasant city, I live near it, but will not cross the bridge in unless I'm passing straight through to get to the Pagoda.

Personally, I would never leave my S2000 overnight unless it was out of plain sight with some kind of protection (Parking garage, friend's garage, parent's house, etc), especially in an area like that.

I was once in the school of thought that stiffer = better and couldn't imagine spending even $1.5k on coils. Then I rode in cars with more than double the factory spring rate, yet they rode better than stock

What they said. You get far better handling, plus a better ride on the street. Really amazing technology with their valving

Good to know, thanks.

Also,
S2000 is gone. 401k loan payoff for down payment on our new house was more important right now. Sold to a close friend on the forums. He made a solid offer that made me consider parting with it...He flew down and drove back to Jersey in it on Saturday.

I'll miss it dearly.

Noooo

You'll be back, they always come crawling back

This weekend was productive

I started my door swap and unfortunately, I did not finish. I started at around noon and called it quits at around 6:30pm, swapping over the door handle, door lock, door lock actuators & windows was a pain in the ass .

All the leg work is done, door is mounted, window & rails are in, electrical is run - just need to figure out why the lock isn't engaging & disengaging .. it tries, but never makes the full transition from unlock to lock

Here are the pics:

Before:

Work area:

Door removed:

The door is gone ... why not go for a drive? - felt like I had a Wrangler.

Final product:

Once I get the locking situation figured out, I'm home free.

Not thrilled about the paint, now my car has 3 different shades of white on the driverside .

well whattaya know... had the tire shop re-balance the wheels... every single wheel had a staggering less amount of weights and in very different locations.. im wondering if they tried to balance them correctly at all the first time.

threw the wheels back on... smooth sailing up to 120 before laying off it.

I had still ordered the axles spacers the day before just in case. I guess i'll be installing them on a rainy weekend.

thanks for the suggestions and input. glad to be motoring around smoothly again.
