Well it's pretty simple. I sit in a S5, I drive a S5, I feel like I've made a good choice at $54k. It's not as quick as I had imagined it would be. 340hp is a lot but the car is not a Lotus Elise. It handles well but it's not sharp, like a S2000. More like it's precise. And then I get out of it and I see the LEDs and the tight panels and the beautiful lines ... And I remember that interior.

Then I sit in a Corvette (this is without the $8k hand-stitched interior) and I see knobs and switches that should be in a Silverado. I see leather that while not as bad as say a '88 Pontiac 6000 STE, still has a sheen to it that reminds me more of pleather than nappa. Then I drive it and it's fast as shit and it handles well. But it's loud. It's hot and the radio sucks. And I'm still looking at what Chevy thought was the worst interior they could get away with in that car and not have a riot in Bowling Green.

So yes, I'd definitely pick the S5 over the Corvette.

I agree. I'd take an S5 over a vette too. Entirely different cars, but if I'm only allowed to pick one, I'm picking the *much* better daily driver.

OK, yes; if and only if the potential buyer gets the longest, most comprehensive extended factory warranty offered.......and sells the car a couple of thousand miles short of when that warranty ends.

Standard operating procedure with German cars. You've all been warned.

If you're going to play that card, I'll play the 'If I have enough money to buy an S5, I've got enough money to maintain it' card.

You could also play the "Which company makes the corvette?" card (regarding reliability of course).

Audi HAS had issues with reliability but they have been far improved over the last few years. The stigma though hasn't been wiped from people's asses yet so all they do is talk and validate it with previous gen reliability issues.

A3 from what i've seen on Audizine hasn't been unreliable, just normal complains that people would have about other cars too.
A4 is much improved from previous gen.
A6 still has some reliability issues but has been better than previous gen
Don't know anything about the A8 so I won't comment on that.
Q7 is all new, so again can't comment.

OK, I'll spell it out clearly for you:

German cars are very expensive to repair.

Write it 100 times on the board, please. Then you can go.

those i know that own recent BMW's and Audis haven't had as many problems as others that own japanese cars.

repairs will be very expensive, sure.

but as stated above, you'd hope that somone that can afford to pay 50-60k for a car will be able to pay maintenance/repair bills.

Making blanket statements that you shoudlnt' buy a german car just because they are expensive to repair or "unreliable" is And as stated previously, If a person was deciding to buy a vette or an S5, you would hope they pick the one they want most and that they can afford to make the repairs on it based on their income level. There are other factors that can also influence their decision to buy either of the cars like knowing a mechanic or having a friend that works at the dealership and gets you discounts on repairs, etc.

That still doesn't justify why one should buy a vette over an S5.

What if they can get a great deal on an S5 because they have a friend or family member that works at a dealership. They know an Audi Mechanic? There are too many factor's to make a claim that buyers should buy car x just becuase it costs less to maintain than car y.

Too bad it wasn't based of the Aston Martin. Yummy would have flipped his lid that his favorite stuperherotype figure drove an aston martin.

The new C6s are pretty quiet, and as long as you don't get the Z51 package it shouldn't be harsh at all. Go ahead and spend money to fix your car. I'll drive mine, thanks.... in fact, I'll mod it with the money I saved and I won't even worry about it then because my car is bulletproof even with most mods.

What in the world would be cheaper than not having to fix your car at all? What if I knew someone at the dealership who could even get me an even better deal? What if I knew a GM mechanic? What if I were a GM mechanic? You're almost pulling a double standard, these what-ifs could easily be applicable to the Corvette buyer.

If you polled 19 year old males in the US, I think most would go with the Corvette anyway and I happen to be one. Just a hunch.... but I think the Corvette would be funner to drive. Targa roof = Comparing one topless car to another that isn't just isn't fair IMO

You do have an option to get stitching in the interior, I think it looks nice. Do I even care if it has it in the first place? Not really, but it is a nice touch. Loud, depending on the person can be a good thing. Ferraris are loud as shit, that's terrible! What do you mean by "hot"? Um, turn on the AC which is standard or take the targa top off and enjoy topless motoring? The radio... does suck.

I'm willing to bet a good 90% of people in this thread alone haven't sat in, let alone driven a new Corvette. If I never sat in one I'd probably assume you were right also. So.... show of hands? Who has sat in a Corvette? Driven one?

To each his own I guess.

He's probably being sarcastic... I do understand how people value a nice interior, aesthetically and quality-wise. But at 19 I haven't quite developed that 'acquired' taste yet.

I haven't sat or driven in an S5 at all though, so what do I know.... just trying to be the devil's advocate. The C6 shouldn't have been brought up at all, but then again this is Acurazine after all, how often does a topic stay on topic when it goes for more than 1 page

I have.. fast as hell, great to drive, and pretty squeaky for a car that had less the 10K miles on it (I can't speak for all c6s, but the one I was in must have had mice living in the dash). And after a few hours sitting in traffic, my back hurt.. and I wanted out.

I'm sure its a great car if your looking for bang for the buck and speed. But I want more from a car than speed, hence my preference for the S5

I'm not so sure about that. I think the Corvette is trying to be too many things to too many people. Half sports car and half GT.

The Vette hasn't been a pure sports car in a long time (if ever). I don't think anyone would park any generation of Corvette next to a Lotus Elise and think they were built for the same purpose.

I think the Corvette is a Gran Turismo. Porsche has proven that you can take a GT and turn it into a pretty amazing car but in the end the 911 GT2 is still at it's roots a GT.

Because the Corvette (IMHO) is a GT it's a fair comparison to put against the S5. Especially if you put in the $8k hand-stitched interior.

GM has rolled the dice for years that a big engine in the Vette cures all ills. People will look past the cheap interior and the rattles for the few moments a day when they scare the shit out of themselves with brute-force performance.

The latest Corvette is the best the marque has ever been. But it's still not as good as an S5. The $8k up-charge interior is beautiful and the materials are first rate ... But if you look at the parts that weren't replaced you can see that cheapness still present.

It's a shame because I hear the Vette is just a beast at the track with the new suspension and 436hp LS3. The rest of the car is a let down for reasons we could spend another 20 pages arguing about like unions and bean counters and so on.

While I love but I mean looove the S5, I'd go with the C6 Vette. Yesterday, I was at the light at an intersection when an older man with his wife showed up in a black targa model. As he left, his tail stepped out...all that combined with an unmatchable v8 sound... while I was in the A8 with a baby crying in the back.It should have been the opposite. Can't wait to retire.
RWD+big V8 motor+MT>*= my idea of fun

As for Audi reliability, Costco said best, it really depends. My A8 has been nothing but stellar so far.
