NY Metro Gasoline Rant

It never fails. With my Saab 9-5's, I always noticed if I filled up in Queens or Long Island and then took a long trip somewhere, anywhere, I would average about 26mpg with a tank of NY gasoline. Never fails. Have reconfirmed this on many many trips. If I fill up in Massachusetts or New Hampshire, I average 28-30mpg.

So what happens with our new TSX Sportwagon? Same damn thing. 26mpg is what we average all the way out, but as soon as we fill up with a tank of MA gasoline? 30mpg all the way back.

In any talk about mileage on the Saab forums, it was always "I regularly get 30mpg on the highway" and all us NY-ers get 26-27mpg max.

How can there be such a difference?

I haven't proved it, but I feel the same way about off brand gas.

^I'd have to chime in and agree with that one. I've noticed 1mpg less when I fill up with the cheap gas here. I finally got smart and realized it's not worth the few pennies I saved because of the loss. I'm strictly visiting Chevron and 76 now.
