NSX, Legend, S2000 Mount Lemmon Cruise - Arizona - Pics
Had a healthy dose of Honda therapy last Friday April 10th when I went on a 300-mile drive on the Catalina Highway near Tucson, Arizona. The road to the 8,200 foot summit delivers dozens of curves that were well suited to these cars in attendance:
Both Legends and the 1992 NSX are mine so I had some friends helping me drive them. The complete write-up is here on my blog:
https://drivetofive.wordpress.com/20...rmance-hondas/
My NSX rolled 100,000 miles on the way back to the Phoenix area later that same afternoon. I blogged about it here, including complete/detailed maintenance records back to when the car was new:

Thanks for reading!

Me too. It's a great one. We chose to do it on a weekday vs. weekend because there seemed to be fewer bicyclists in the middle of the lanes.
Thank you!
Thanks, yes the purpose of this trip was to showcase a little about what Honda "used to be." The S2000 belongs to Steve Lynch, author for The Truth About Cars website. He'll be posting his write-up soon and the general theme is that of "orphaned Hondas" such as the ones on this drive.

We had a riot. Passed around the car keys so everyone could drive everything.
Yes in 1994 & 1995 only, the GS trim level sedan was offered with the same "Type II" 230-horsepower motor and 6-speed transmission that the coupe had. They are extremely rare. The ILX is still my daily at around 121,000 miles on it now. This is a shot from last year of all the cars together. That doesn't happen very often since usually one car is put away in storage.
Haha yes, they were really over-engineered cars for their time. The sticker on my coupe is $41,885. And that's in 1994 dollars!
I tend to agree with you. Actually that was the purpose of this drive. The S2000 belongs to Steve Lynch who writes for The Truth About Cars website. He is currently writing an article about "orphaned Hondas" and using this drive as his theme.

Haha, I just drive a lot. The car was already out of warranty before it was 1 model year old. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, 2nd battery, and 2nd alternator belt. Every time I take it in for service I have to call ahead and make sure parts are available because apparently I'm the record holder for ILX miles and nobody else has gone that far yet.
Two weeks ago I drove to Dallas and back for a long weekend with friends. This weekend I'm doing 1,400 miles to go to a wedding in Salt Lake. It just adds up. Interestingly enough, my work commute is only 10 miles. Haha.
Here's a post from last October when I rolled 100,000 miles.

But glad you are using your cars for what they are built for. Just saying, flying is not bad once in a while

i was reading your blog and let me just get this right.
So Acura pretty much gave you the ILX for "free" for you loyalty and the passion for driving? (and some advertisement?)
Good stuff!

Haha, yes I fly plenty. Just prefer to enjoy the open road.
Correct. I was part of the ILX launch campaign in spring 2012 through a series of videos and social media activities. Shortly after the model went on sale, they gave me the keys to a new car (16 miles on it) and asked me to blog about it for a year. I fulfilled that requirement, and they mailed me the title. I'm still blogging almost 2 years later...

Nice! I loved my drives up Mt Lemmon, well, that is beside my CL-Ss auto transmission not being happy about it lol. Glad to see you still have the Legends and now an NSX. I wish I could drive as many miles as you do. I love the open road, too.

Man I love the Legends. Still remember reading about the GS Type II in all white, in Car and driver or road and track.
Any interior pics of the Legends?

Awesome pictures and cars as always!
Ahh the Type II motor, that was a minor undertaking in my '97 3.2 TL, should have added the manual transmission while I was at it.

Thanks Blake! Glad I finally got to meet ya last month!
Thank you! Yeah I haven't posted much about the NSX, but I bought it in December 2011 for my 30th bday present to myself. Here is a post where I shared a ton of pictures.

Thanks!
Just got back on Sunday from a 1,400 mile weekend in the ILX. It's at a little over 123,000 now. Went through some neat towns in Utah en route to my cousin's wedding in Salt Lake City.

Wow, those line ups look like something out of a sales brochure from when I was a kid (I would collect them all when my dad brought cars in for service).
Incredible cars and the interior on the sedan looks AMAZING! Thanks for sharing and now on to reading your blog.

Can I be your buddy so I can drive your NSX? ROFL.
Seriously, that looked like a nice little trip. Makes me sorry I don't have winding roads around here.

Thanks for reading! Funny that you mentioned the brochure pics. A couple years ago I had my friend John take some pics of my Legends + NSX at a parking garage here in town. They turned out pretty decent.
Likewise! Look forward to meeting you there.
Haha yes of course I do. Need to get you back into a Legend.
Haha, the RLX needs a clutch pedal before I really want one that badly. I still keep pretty good contact with the folks at Acura. I'm helping plan this year's "NSXPO" annual event which will be held in Palm Springs. I also occasionally get Acura vehicles for press loans and I review them.
If you're ever in this area, I'll gladly throw you the keys.
Took a 200-mile drive on Sunday with a bunch of people and someone snagged this picture of my thumbs up. Definitely an enjoyable ride.
