.....and don't tell me to slow down or else I'll ban you
Do I buy another V1 or do I give the Escort a try? Aside from the millions of false alarms, I liked the V1 a LOT, and it kept me ticket-less...though Escort (9500) is kicking ass lately with the awesome technology it's packed with, so which do I get this time around?

Being a current V1 owner...I would be tempted to give the Escort a try.
I like the way they are going with GPS and iPhone integration.

I was thinking about it last night after posting this, and I'm leaning towards taking the high road - "If it 'aint broke, don't fix it".
[edit] They do have an app for Android..

Where's the "You probably don't really need a detector, esp. in New York City" option?
I don't have a lidar detector, but haven't been ticketed for excessive speed since 1988, despite driving consistently faster than the limit, but no more than 15 mph over.
Oh, only click on "Ashley Madison" if you can afford alimony.

As a long-time V1 owner, I'd say stick with the V1. You don't need all the tech of the Escort. A radar detector has only one purpose: to DETECT RADAR and (too late) LIDAR. You need to know where you are being attacked from.
That said, there's nothing wrong with trying something different for a little while just to try it.
at the Google search result! I dare you to click on Ashley Madison. I double-dog dare you!

V1 gets my vote, I love mine. On the way back from NY last week I picked up a MD state trooper hiding in the median from nearly a mile away.

I need a radar detector. I'm pretty sure I'm living on borrowed time right now. I had pretty much decided on the V1, but the latest Escort has started to sway me.

Having both, the escort is the better product.

Isn't it illegal to have radar detectors there?
I voted for V1 but like others have said Escort has been kicking ass lately. I'm still rocking my old Cobra XRS9700 lol

I shave my change purse
Within NYC you have no worries especially since nypd cut highway patrols by like 50% lol. I have a hard time finding highway cops nowadays, not sure if you've noticed.

not for me, i still see them during rush hour on the SSP and MSP and over the weekend I saw a lot on the LIE.
I guess thats a plus, hopefully crime will be down.

FWIW, I don't usually have my radar on at all times. I only really use it for long distance trips or if I do a rally..
Still undecided, but still leaning towards another V1. I like the arrows!

Its illegal to operate, but not to own. You can have one in your car, as long as its in a locked glovebox or trunk and not accessible to the driver while the car is in motion. I have one and use it for road trips. I know where most of the speed traps are where I drive in VA so I dont really need to use it here.

The V1 saved my ass a few times on my latest road trip. Nothing like being warned about NJSP a good 1/2 mile in advance

Its this:
That way you can mount the radar itself up higher, and have the concealed display where ever you want it so no one else can see it. I have it integrated into my rearview mirror along with my AFR gauge

Depends on where you live- large city/urban perhaps the V1 for the arrows maybe. For rural or open road, I would definitely go with Escort/Bel because those detectors have a extra range over the V1. That could be the difference between a ticket or not in an instant-on situation: arrows are not going to save you but range may if there is another car ahead of you that tickles the radar.
For those with the V1- how helpful are the left/right arrows? Do they fly off when you can already see the cop only- if that's the case it would not be much help. Just wondering. The Front/Back arrows are handled by strength meter.

The arrows are great. plenty of warning, the ability to know which direction to start looking. Easier to judge.

^ me too- the V1 resembles a B-52 bomber in aesthetics and size. But back again to the LEFT-RIGHT arrows question- does a left arrow indicator light up 1/2 mile before the cop when the cop is on the left side of the road or just when you're at the cop? It's the Left-Right arrow that might be nice at times but I always wanted to know how effective those arrows are- I understand the front-back arrows already and have that logic already with the signal strength indicator.
