Nissan Murano??? Or a recommended SUV under 30K?

Anyone ever had an experience with this SUV? I'm going to be replacing the wife's car with something a bit larger within 6-12 months. Wanted to get some type of SUV, no more than 30K... And even that is stretching it... Cheaper the better.

Certainly thinking about the Honda Pilot too...

New or used dude? Murano is stylish, interior is the usual (your aware)....Very quick, uses CVT tranny. Not the biggest on cargo space.
You know I recommend a used RX 300. Sporty SUVs are oxymorons to me.
Pilot is solid just looks like a bigger Toyota Highlander (which looks like an ugly box). Can't go wrong with a Pilot.

If your lucky, maybe find a used FX35 since you have a G35?

BTW, the Murano is not a very large SUV, I think 180 inches in length, shorter than your G35.

I have a 03' Murano SE. What do you need to know about it?

I've had it for more than a year now, only complaints are some rattles from the interior trim pieces. Handles very well. Very spacious back seat. Cargo rooms is not as big as competitors like the Pilot, as 1SICKLEX stated.

CVT does feel different, but you get used to it. The 04 SE has automanual if you prefer to shift youself. Have been averaging 20 MPG with it, mostly freeway driving.

I had a SL AWD murano for 1 month as my personal rental car on my tv show.

To those who say its not big on cargo....IT IS. I had hauled around myself and my Assistant PLUS an Entire camera package, lighting package, accessories, AND luggage. And I did it comfortably for the 6000 miles i put on it in those 4 weeks.

The car is quite spacious. Quite well layed out in design and ergonomics. The CVT tranny is smooth and has a sort of "shift'" feature basically a 2 position low gear/high gear to help accel/deccel. The power is there once you get going available and smooth, specially when "downshift." Its not super speedy from a stop, but its not a snail either.

The AWD is awesome, we did some mountain backroad carving (we had 2 in our caravan) one night and those things stick and stay planted at high speeds
I thouroughly enjoyed this SUV and I would hihgly consider the FX cause its a 350z based over the Altima based Murano. but you WILL lose space with theFX.

In my book, Murano is a GREAT sporty SUV.

I would NOT recomment the Jeep Liberty. My CL is in the shop and the dealership rented me a 2005 Liberty while the CL is being fixed. My best description of it is "bouncy, noisey and NO power. I have been leaving it parked at home and driving my 1994 Nissan Quest van.

new highlander v6 AWD is well over $30k....well at least it was when my mom and I were looking for one....even the base V6 was cutting it close to 30k

pilot would probably be my choice for a brand new suv for under 30k

The Murano is cool, but I can’t get past the Jimmy Carter grill.
Anyone else see the resemblance?

Interesting how you get more replies here than that other forum...

So, made up your mind yet?

I'm not a fan of Freshalloy... People are so uninterested in other people's questions.

I haven't made up my mind... I'm almost positive nothing will happen this year as it's simply a money thing. However, I'd say in 12 months or so I'll be ready. I just wanted to get opinions on the Murano as it's a newer SUV to the field.

I dunno... If I were to find a deal too good to be true... We'll see.

Start looking at autotrader or something. A low mileage used car can save you big bucks!

I was looking to buy a Pilot EX-L early last year. I like the Murano a lot, but it was way over my budget at that time. A loaded SE FWD was going for abou 35k by then.

Then I was bored at work one day and started browsing autotrader. I found a loaded SE FWD with 3000 miles for sale at an Infiniti dealer. Turned out a guy bought it for 3 months and traded it in for an FX35. The Murano was listed at 30k, and I talked it down to 28.5 so I took the deal .

I think if I were in the market for this type of vehicle from Nissan/Infiniti, I’d scrape together a bit more and get the FX35.
The front end is much better looking then “Jimmy”.

Get a used FX; if you can't find one, a used RX. New, I like the Murano better than the Pilot and Highlander, though it's not huge on storage. But it's stylish, wish is want alot of people want.

I don’t know about the 35, but the FX45 isn’t selling too well around here.
My local Infiniti dealer has been pushing them in the paper for MONTHS.
2.9% financing and rebates in the thousands.
They had some crazy lease deals too, but I don’t remember the numbers.

I just handed back my leased CLS for an 04 FX35 sport/touring. you cannot compare the FX to the Murano. Murano FWD platform(Altima) horrible interior.
FX35 RWD platform(G35 et al) the FX is like driving a sportscar with a big bubble roof.

There are a lot of early 03's coming off lease now, you should be able to get one for close to 30k if you search real hard.

Good luck, let me know if u need anything else.

The murano seems nice, stylish. Think the new 05 pathfinder is coming out in the fall.

Your correct. And their own QX56 is putting the nail in the coffin. Both are the same price. And you know here, bigger SUVs just sell, no matter how ugly or silly.
