As upset as you are voice it to the dealership. If they see that this may Jeopardize a sale or future sales/referrals they may sweeten the deal even more. Won't hurt to try.

Im sorry to hear your upset nicky, but you are a little dramatic. Just have them fix it, look it over and go from there. Im sure they can fix it and if they do everything is fine. When i picked up my cl i looked it over and found 1 chip on the rear bumper by the license plate. They just touched it up, which covered the black, but you could still see the chip. The whole point is that now after driving it over a year and a half, my front has chips everywhere and my back fender has chips from my eagles throwing up road debree. Its just one of those things you gotta learn to live with and not let it get to you or stress you out. Im sure you already have enough stress, and you shouldn't give yourself more over these little things. If you do, i can't see how you will even enjoy driving it. You are gonna get rock chips, there is no avoiding it. You might wanna get the 3m clear bra and cover the whole front of your car.

at the title change. Sorry Nicky. These things happen. It just happened at the dealership where they will fix it and not in some parking lot where you would have to take care of it on your own!

And what's the worst that can happen? You go to pick up the car, you're not satisfied, so you don't buy it?

Don't feel like you have to buy the car... If it's not to your satisfaction, walk away. Your CLS will still be there.

Unless, things turn out like they did in National Lampoon's Vacation, where the dealer flattened their old car like a pancake.

If the car wasn't perfect, I wouldn't buy it. They aren't giving you as good a deal as you think anyway.
After the new Mustang comes out you won't want this car anyway, it's an 03 and the 05 will be coming out in a few months, shit it's almost 2 years old already.
When I get rid of the CLS, it will be for a car that is a major step up in class, not a crappy Mustang.
Sorry Nicky.

you guys bitching back and forth always makes me laugh. Its like lunch time on the playground.

Anyway Nicky get the car...make them fix it and still be a little pissed and see if you can get something for your troubles. Maybe you get something...maybe not...but you will soon forget about the chip once you brake the back tires loose.

Ok back to bitching at eachother...:P

I don’t know if you made your decision on fixing the paint flaw in the Mustang or not, but here’s what I would do.
Get it in writing that there is a flaw in the paint and have it written up in the agreement that they will fix it when you determine you want it done.
That way you still have the original paint on the car and you won’t be opening up a can of worms with a brand new car going to the body shop.
If you get a ding or scratch in the near future, THEN you get it fixed.

My friend had a 2004 Mustang GT that came through with a paint flaw in the passenger’s door.
There was a small run in the paint about 4” long near the front edge.
He didn’t notice it until the day AFTER delivery.
He did exactly what I just posted above and had the dealer mark it up as an IOU to fix it.

Unfortunately, his 5-Speed Tranny gave him nothing but problems and he traded the car a few months later.

I still say just touch it up by hand and live with it.
I wouldn’t want the factory finish reworked before I even took delivery of the car.
Pick it up tonight and have some fun.

And I agree that he should have the dealer throw in some shit, but this isn't anything to make you decide not to get the car. THe dealer decided to fix it.

another thing to think about, is manufacturers allow usually 3-5 flaws in the paint and still say the are acceptable to send off to the dealers and sell.

Alright then....CLpower...If it was your car...what would would do. I'm spending $33K on a car...it may not be alot to some...but it is to me. For that kind of money wouldn't you want it perfect when you took delivery. I know you know about detailing...so paint issues wouldn't bother you. I know that dealers fix cars like this all of the time, but most of the time the buyer is not aware of it.

nick,
nobody is saying they wouldn't say something to the dealership so the problem can be corrected. But your posts are overly dramatic. It's a chip in the paint for pete's sake. You are acting like wheel i missing. Save the drama......

heh calling clpower a post whore, but responding to EVERY OTHER REPLY in this post eh?

the paint chip wont make the car go slower bro...quit complaining...if you pass up the car for a fucking paint chip...you'd regret it for ever, and you'd proably deserve the regret...

have you not read my responses

I'm w/ everybody else. As i've stated, manufacturers allow 3-5 flaws on cars, runs, dimples, etc. I've got a few friends who own body shop sand they all tell me how cars get delivered to them right off the trucks do to damage from transportation, etc. Let them fix it, it's not a big deal at all, they are totally willing to take care of it. If they come back and the paint doesn't match, etc don't take it. But that is most likely not the case. Have them fix it, be happy, no reason to get all whiney

Well, most of you guys know I am a paint guy for ITW in both liquids and powder coating. Paint chips would drive me nuts too.

How do you think I felt when I posted on May the second that my anthricite CLS6 was 11 months old and still did not have as much as one door bang, scratch or paint chip. I jinxed myself, the next day some old broad inflicted more than $4,000 of damage to half of the drivers side of the car. Sorry Nicky, not trying to jack your thread here.

But here is something I bet you don't know, and it suprised me too!

We own a company called ITW BGK, and they make electric infrared paint curing equipment. Think of these guys as making big and powerful 480 volt toasters for spot curing paint, and they supply the automakers with complete, turnkey curing systems.

Now, get this: as far as the big three goes in the US, and I am talking domestics here, the AVERAGE car made here get 5 to 7 paint touchups/and repairs BEFORE they leave the factory!

Paint damage is a fact of life. Just make them fix it nicky. No sense blowing a gasket over this.

Put yourself in my shoes. I checked on my car today. Drivers rear window was out. Rear window was out. And a guy was cutting off everything behind the door with a grinder. It wasn't pretty.

It will be done Thursday...Then I look at it...then decide. IF I'm not happy with it I'll probably kick out another grand and get an 04 Coupe. The only things left "unstock" on the CL are the mufflers and the CAI. All of the stock Bose is in so there is noe turning back now . So regaurdless...the CL will be traded in...either on the vert or the 04 coupe. I'm not backing out of the deal...and darrinb....whats up with the wheels....you want them?..........tell your cousin $1250.
