no, because there is more to a car than Horsepower. when I think of the words "sports-car" I instantly think of autox, not dragstrip, but thats very....."unamerican" :o

G35C - Looks nice, not worth the $$ over his CL-S
350Z - same thing, just doesnt look as nice
RX8 - Weakish engine
Used 330ci - 225hp for $35k?
Used S4 - You think the Cobra is unreliable & is expensive to maintain?
S2000 - WTF would want 153lb ft of tq in their "fast" car.

I have always thought that if you are selling your car you should upgrade. None of the cars you listed, imo are a significant enough upgrade over his CL-S to justify the added cost.

ok lets get back on topic here....

COBRA

I think that's a good start?

So you can get an 03 NEW Cobra for around $33k, correct? I must say, even though I'm not MUCH of a mustang fan (because they're becoming ALMOST as common as fucking civic's)...COBRA'S can be summed up in 3 words located on Jules' wallet in Pulp Fiction

Not only can you get it for $33k, but its a vert. That's fuckin sweet man!! The pro's and con's have already been listed, no need to re-iterate. You obviously sound REALLY stoked about this. I would really sit down and do some long hard thinking about this, because it's a big decision. I dunno man, $33k for a vert Cobra is mighty . Btw, in case I missed this, what color is it?

P.S. Evo's ARE super pimp BUT, so are Cobra's

All I can say is that a home appreciates...and cars do not.

My home is worth 77% more than it was 7 years ago when I bought it.

My CLS6 is worth about 25% less, and it is 11 months old.

Go figure.

That's an awesome price, and it's an awesome car. When I got my Z, it was between the Z and the Cobra. Unfortunately the markup on the Cobra at the time was way too high.

I'd definitely do it. There is nothing like the feel of almost 400hp!

BTW, Torquie.. In regards to the Evo being so great and fast, this morning, I'm picking up my good friend at the Mitsubishi dealer and driving him to work because he is getting a new clutch installed.

The best part is that he only has 8200 miles on the car, and it's costing him $1200. He rarely launched the car hard.... Probably did it 3x or so and this is what happens. The guy has been driving manual transmission cars for years, so he knows what he's doing.

The Cobra on the other hand is much faster in day to day driving and there is nothing like the sound of a nice V8.

In regards to reliability, the Evo isn't anything special whatsoever and definitely not better than the Cobra.

Being a fan of import cars, I do have to admit that Domestic cars in general simply offer the most bang for the buck: SRT-4, SVT Cobra, Z06 and even Ford GT come immediately to mind, as their foreign counterparts cost thousands more.

Nicky, I thought of getting an SVT Cobra as a toy around car seeing as Ford will negotiate their prices now that the 05 Stangs are just about (if not already) out. Unfortunately, my wife COMPLETELY hates domestic cars, ONLY tolerates Asian cars but loves European cars. So, I'll probably not see that SVT in my garage anytime soon.

I'm always on the www.svtperformance.com and I'm not seeing anyone regretting their Cobra purchase. They ALL have fun with it. Good luck.

Peace.

remember they take 6k off any american car, so if it is an 03 they should be taking an extra 3-4k off. the only reason they prob still have it and wont go lower is b/c of what they owe the bank after 60 days. that car can be sold cheaper than what they offfered

my friend just bought a LOADED touring 350z for $300 over invoice. You can get good deals with Z's if you talk to the right dealership. I think he payed like 31k.

Hell, a G35C loaded is close to $40k and has nowhere near the power or potential of the Cobra. Obviously Nicky has had the whole "nice interior/smooth driving" thing with his CL-S and now wants something with some balls. Thats my assumption anyways.

Plus, theres nothing like a Mustang V8 with a healthy exhaust cruising around with the top down on a nice summer night.
A G35C is not 40k. A Loaded G35 can be had for 35k out the door.

My G35S was 31,200 loaded except for NAV.

2000? Have the dealer meet you 1/2 way. I don't think they'll let you walk over $1000, on an 03. New or not, they have to take a year's deprecation into account.

If not, get it anyway.

The Mustang is HOT indeed and that price seems pretty good.
Make sure you factor the cost of a winter vehicle into your plans.
And aren’t your insurance costs going to SPIKE quite a bit too over what the CL-S costs?

For the record, I would choose the Cobra over the STI or EVO any day of the week.
Big torquey V8 vs a little 4-Door 4cyl with a hair dryer bolted on the side.
No question at all.

Sounds like an excellent deal, so long as the insurance premiums don't deter you.

Definately ask the dealer to meet you half way with the 2k, as someone else suggested. They will probably not let you walk over 1k.

Winter car is also a great idea, as Shawn suggested.

That could be some fun drifting that car...

Does your trade-in require that you leave all the audio stuff in the CL? If not, sell that and get the 2k you need.

Sell your wheels. That's good for $1000 or more. And get the dealer to cover the other half.

No biggie.

dude, who pulled your string man? put down the talking stick for awhile.

All I mainly see are zit faced kids driving evos and WRX. Please.

And lots of people nuke the trannys dropping the clutch all of the time! Something has to slip/give when you launch at those high RPMs. It's the drive-train when you have 4wd. Some tire spin is a good thing.

Off-roading?!?!? LMFAO you bring your car, I'll bring my jeep. Lets see how far you get off roading. Driving through the dirt/grass is not considered off-roading. Hell I can do that in a minivan.

YES, the choice is his. If he liked the car your talking about he'd get one. Your 291892190^32 posts are not going to change his mind. Wouldn't change mine either, their ugly IMO.

And props to Nicky for putting $$ back into our economy!

There is nothing like the sound of a mustang. I still think you should have looked used ill bet you could get a low milage 03 vert for less....but have fun, be safe, and take LOTS of pics and movies as you mod

The choice is yours. I'd only say that the dealer is playin you. Let you drive the car, fall in love, then jack you on the price. You need to spend the time to understand clearly the games they are playing on the total cost. Don't focus on the payment, focus on the OTD cost.

nicky, do it man!!!! fucking new cobra vert???? holy shit, that will be an amazing car. imagine rolling on the lakefront downtown chicago with the top down and the system bumpin, holy fuck! beautiful!!

dude, all you do is throw that 2k on your credit card, sell your 19's and any other mods you can strip off the CL quicky and youll EASILY have 2k to pay back your credit card before that 2k is even on there long enough to accrue intrest. thats your best bet, without a doubt. and id also walk in there and say look, knock off an extra 1k and its a DONE DEAL TODAY RIGHT NOW. dealers love that and they usually do it.

as far as winter vehicle, thats low on the priority list, like i said, chicago, milwaukee, midwest....yeah, we may get a decent amount of snow, but we arent driving through hilly mountains all day. our road systems are like checkerboards, highways are wide, straight, flat and clear. our municipalities are GOOD at clearing snow unlike out east where it takes 2 days to clear a 5 inch snow storm. all you need is a few sand bags and some blizzak tires, nothing more. that, and just dont drive like an idiot in the winter.

do it man, all i gotta say is i cant wait for a chicago meet so i can see the new ride!!!!!!

Nicky, make the dealer work with you. I am sure they want rid of a new 2003. Less for theirs, more for yours. Make THEM work for the $2k

2K ain't shit, especially for a one year old car that hasn't been titled.

I'd really try to make the dealer come down if they want a sale.

Look at it this way... You already have a nice car. So if you're not going to make the dealer work to your advantage, why do it? It's a car, not an investment. Why put out more cash that you want?

If 2K is a big deal for you, I'd say look... It's a 2003... And you want 2K off somewhere, either on the trade or on the sale of the car. It's now back in their court. Negotiate strong and you'll more than likely get the car.

I agree 100%, our home has appreciated about the same in one year (construction was completed last May) but his priority right now seems to be cars.... so he needs to get it out of his system. The only thing that worries me is if he's struggling to come up with $2k.... priorities need to be re-evaluated.

You know what's funny... I've done some rough calculations, and if I would have kept my original new car (1995 Sunfire) which is still running great today (my buddy bought it from me and I see it everyday... still looks and runs like new) I would have tens of thousands of dollars more to my name. Granted, I wouldn't be in an Acura.... but I'd be worth a lot more. The good thing is that I finally learned my lesson with the TL and will be driving this car into the ground and using my money on principle for my mortgage so I can own my house by 35 (I'm 27 now). I'll tell you this... buying a house makes constantly trading up for a car a thing of the past.
