The new VW Touareg TDI has some serious pull
this past saturday a vw touareg pulled next to me while the light was red. i was on the centre lane waiting for the light to turn green and go straight, the touareg was on the left lane presumably going left when the light turns green.
so the light turned green, the touareg instantly jumped ahead and cut me off, which was when i spotted it was a tdi. the crazy thing was at the next red light, it did the exact same to a mb c63 amg. although i think the c63 was like me and didn't expect the touareg would be doing something this crazy.
upon further research, the touareg tdi had 407 lb-ft of torque, and judging by how quickly it pulled ahead, i don't think my tl sh-awd could prevent that even if i wanted to.
the c63 on the other hand, should be able to with relative ease.

I suddenly have the urge to cut off the next "touareg" I see on the road.

*yeah, I know 0-60 isn't the sole indicator of performance. I'm merely putting this into perspective. It really all did come down to perceptions.

There is a video on YouTube of a Touraeg or however you spell it, pulling against a Silverado. And it down right puts the truck to shame. Its pretty funny.

Burning Brakes
It makes 0 ft-lb when it's in the shop; broken down; again; and again.

Had a couple of friends (both girls) with VW, both were POS Jettas. Lot's of "Can you pick me up at the repair shop? My car broke down again."

Just about any vehicle is quick off the line these days in stop/go traffic. Give it time, you'll experience just about every type of vehicle whiz past you on the green. I accelerate moderately off lights, with emphasis on the slow side. Gas is expensive, no reason to burn more just to hit another red light in a few hundred feet. I find that most of the red light racers are out of power by 40mph, as I'm usually on their ass by then without much effort on the pedal. If you want to be a red light commando with the TL it can certainly play the part, but you'll be stopping at the Shell station a lot
