It's $500/month and I give them receipts for gas which they reimburse. So the $500 has to cover car, insurance and maintenance.

Finally signed with the new company, I start 3/12 Very excited to start a new opportunity. My territory will include ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IL, IA, MN & WI.
The car allowance is a little less than I thought but still good. I think I have decided to keep the GS for at least a year or two. I hope she'll make a good road warrior.
I am thinking I will get the following done before I start driving a lot (in a couple of months):
Tires
Air filter
Cabin air filter
Trans drain and fill
Coolant drain and fill
Fresh oil change (probably going to switch to synthetic to save time)
Check ball joints (notorious for this)
New Nav DVD
Am I missing anything? The timing belt/water pump was done at 90K so if I complete the above, I should be set for the next 50K-60K miles (at 127K now).

That's correct. In my case, it will be used for a 2009-2010 Pilot Touring for the Mrs.

715 miles this week so far.
Saw a Ford GT and a Fisker Karma today. Yesterday, I saw a civic on rims pulling a decent size trailer. That was interesting.

I love hearing about people racking up tons of miles on cars, especially nicer ones.
Time passes by so much faster on the road as well.

Update
Didn't want to start a "Pilot needed a new catalytic converter, a radiator, timing belt and water pump service and new front brakes" thread, so dug this one up.
Quick update: End of June, I bought a Scion XB for cheap and sold my GS430.
And last week I took my wife's Pilot for an oil change and learned it needed way more work than I wanted to deal with and traded it in for a 2010 Prius V with navigation, bluetooth, back up cam, heated leather, HID's, fog lights, 17's, etc. I will be using the Prius primarily for work and my wife will drive it when I'm working from home.
First tank I averaged 48.7MPG (I calculated it out, what the computer showed was way off at over 50). So far on the second tank which is at about 120 miles so far, the computer is showing 54.4MPG which is about 52.5ish. Couldn't be happier. Car is actually pretty quiet and smooth and I love all the features it has which surprised the hell out of me. I can't believe I have been making such smart, practical decisions lately...but I guess having a child (4 months old now) will do that to you.
It's a 2010 with 32K miles, CPO from a Toyota dealership.

Wow, been a few years since this thread.
so FF a few years:
- Drove the GS and got a 2008 Scion XB for 10K miles - hated it for long commutes but it was cheap
- Gave the wife the XB and got the 2010 Prius and put 28K on it
- Sold the 2010 Prius and got a 2012 Prius with 5300 miles on it
- Gave the wife the 2012 when it hit 29K and bought a 2006 Lexus GS430
- Lexus check engine came on and needed tires so I sold it in 10K miles
- Bought a 2013 Accord EXL with nav with 18K miles on it
- Sold the accord with 38K miles on it and bougth a 2015 Subaru WRX
There's also a 1991 BMW 318i vert in there but she's a garage queen.

That's exactly what I meant about your insurance agent. Lots of paperwork and updates.
RMV probably enjoys collecting, taxes, tags and title fees.
I work with a guy who has owned/leased 40 cars, but he is nearly twice your age.

I can't stand thinking about how much I've spent in sales tax over the years as out of all of those cars, I've think I've traded in 2...

So does work pay for the sales tax as well or is that somehow on you?

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
So if I got this right:
The wife drives a 2012 Prius
The 2015 WRX and the 2013 Accord EXL are yours - The Accord is the new road warrior
The 318i is still the garage queen.
Did I win? :joke: How's the Accord with all the driving?

Oliver!!!
I think he sold the Accord after 20k miles and has the WRX now.
That's insane, by the way. I'm 36 and am on my 4th car and only casually looking at #5.

Honestly one of the most compelling cars i am seeing is the Focus ST. Factory ecu flash for 350 TQ, versatile hatchback. I bet that car is an absolute blast to drive.

The 318 is sitting in the garage with the battery disconnected for the winter
The accord did everything "well". It's a great car if you don't care about driving (if that makes sense). It was comfortable, smooth, Phenomenal gas mileage (fuelly shows 35.9MPG over 20K miles for me) and had great tech. My biggest complaint was the power, the CVT, stereo and the fact that at 26K miles I needed to do a brake job. I've had these issues with older Acura's, but it's very irritating to be told you need brakes at 26K miles when I drive 40K-50K miles a year 90% being 72MPH on the freeway.
Yeah, I put 20K on the accord and sold it. I can't go a couple of months without looking at something different. I enjoy it and hate it at the same time. Possibly company car coming soon so this will all end.

Accord is gone, the wife drives a 2008 Prius Touring (too good of a deal to pass up and sold the 2012 - she doesn't care and we used the money difference to put a bigger down payment on our new to us home we bought this summer) and I'm driving the WRX.

I keep cars a long time... Had a benz for 10 years, then bought a Civic Si that I would have kept 10+ years, but a coupe + new baby prompted the 'responsible' purchase of a TL. Plan to keep the TL a long time and get a summer car to play with in a few years.

Fahrvergnügen'd
I looked at the Focus and Fiesta ST's at the auto show. They're fantastic cars, and I'm sure they're a ton of fun to drive but the pseudo racing seats were just uncomfortable. I can't imagine getting into that every day for the 35-40 minute commute. I routinely drive out of state too to visit family and friends. Years ago my buddy had the SVT Focus. I liked the balance of performance and practicality a good hot hatch can have.
