A New Car for Dad
My dad is ready to buy a new car. For background, he was always owned full-size domestic cars, but is finally open to getting an import.
Requirements:
v6 automatic
4 door - fits 4 adults comfortably
power doors, windows, etc
large trunk
Wants:
Nav
leather
blue tooth (because of the CA hands free cell law)
Right now we are strongly considering the 2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited. We've got a couple of online quotes, but we believe we can do better.
Budget is ~$25k out the door
Likely paying cash, unless it doesn't make sense to.
Comments on the Sonata? Other recommendations that meet the criteria above?

The 2009 Sonata would be a great choice and good deal for what he's looking for, though IMO I like the look of the pre-facelift models (2005-2008 IIRC). There's not much else out there under $25k with his requirements and his wants, if you're looking at new vehicles. If it were him I'd go with a CPO fully loaded 7G AV6

FWIW, I'd go 1-2yr old used if I were him.
It's what I did. Instead of spending $30k on a new car, I spent $28k on a 3-yr old Audi S4 that was $49k new. Got it with 25k miles.
Hyundai's are good cars. It's not that I don't like them. Your dad could get a used Limited V6 and save a lot of money and go buy the Hyundai Bluetooth kit for $350 and have it put in and come out way ahead.
I'm sure he wants to go new but really, getting the best car for the money should be the end goal shouldn't it?

My uncle bought an Azera Limited for $25,000 out the door. Might want to think about stepping up

Lot's of good choices out there, Accord, as someone else mentioned. If you can go used a few year old ES would fit the bill and is a great car for older drivers. If you were going with a Hyundai I would go used, they depreciate fairly quickly and you can get a 1-2 year old car for 50% of new.

The car will most likely be new as he seems to alternate between getting new and used cars. FWIW, he will likely keep the car until it dies. Honestly, he probably shouldn't even still be driving that long, but that's neither here nor there.
I'll look into the Azera and the Accord, but I thought the v6 Accords were quite a bit more $$.

A V6 EX Navi Accord has an MSRP of 31K I believe. You could probably knock that down closer to $27,500

Do you have the details on the Azera? Was it the GLS or Limited? Premium Package? Any details are appreciated.

According to Hyundai's website thats $31,645
They must be discounting their cars heavily...

Ken - do you know what model year the car is and when he bought it? That seems like a great price, but don't know if it's doable now. Also, the cash back on the Azera is only $1k vs $2k on the Sonata.

I'm quite sure his is a 2008.
And yeah that price blew me away considering the content in the car.

Three Wheelin'
I did a quick search on AutoTrader and the first one that popped up was a Honda Certified 2008 Accord Sedan EX-L with 10k miles for $24,995. That's not too bad either.

I have a good friend with an 06 Sonata. Great car. No problems. Super value.
Hyundai does seem to discount pretty heavily. I would think you should come in well under 25k for a new 09 Sonata.
Keep us posted.

Though the new AV6 is probably not doable (yet) at $25k, a loaded 4 cylinder can be acquired for $25k. (Although going from a V8 to a 4 cylinder might be a jolt, the K24A Accord performs at least as well as a non-Police Interceptor Crown Vic. )
Honorable mention: I would also recommend a used version of the current gen Toyota Avalon but they still generally go for > $25k w/Navi.

I like the new face-lifted Sonatas. For all he wants under 25k, it's the best choice out there. If he doesn't mind getting a used car to get more value, a CPO RL would be good as well.

Thanks again. I will suggest he consider used (1-2 years old) cars, but not sure he will. '08 Azeras are going for <$20K. I'll also look into RLs. He is used to driving a boat, so whatever he moves to will be a marked improvement.

As it is, he seems itching to get the '09 Sonata. He got a quote on a limited with nav for barely over $25k OTD. I don't think that's a bad idea at all, I just want to see if there are any "better" options.
