New Addition to the family

Picked up the wifes new vehicle (2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, HEMI) about 4 weeks ago. Finally got the break-in miles on it, and so far we are very pleased. This is her 4th JEEP GC since 93 (she loves them) and so far seems to be the best one we've owned yet. I wasn't really happy with the ride of the last Limited we had. It was the 4.7L (the first GC with a V8 for us) but the redesign in 99 (from ZJ to WJ) had some harsh drivetrain issues. I felt that the "Limited" should have a smoother ride given the fact that it's supposed to lean towards the luxury area of the market. But it just rode to rough on the local highways and byways for my taste. But she liked it, and it's her vehicle after all.

Although a lot of JEEP GC owners had been concerned about the move to an independant front suspension in the new model (WK,) it seems to have been the right decision. It's really got a much better ride than our 02 LTD on surface streets. And according to the reviews I've read in the auto and truck rags. It's still one of the top off raod vehicles out there.

I decided to load it up with everything, power all, Nav, DVD Entertainment system. I liked the stock 17" chrome wheeel design of the previous model we had, but the new ones just didn't do it for me. So I swapped out the stock wheels in tires within the first week for a set of 5 Spoke 20" wrapped in 275/45R20 rubber. I've seen the '06 Grand Cherokee SRT-8 with the 6.1L 425 HP HEMI, and it's go 20" wheels on it stock. It's lowered about an inch. I wanted to fill my wells a little better, but it would've required some serious suspension changes with the wheels I wanted. The 06" has these changes stock. The SRT-8 looks pretty sweet with the wider rubber, lower stance, and twin fat chrome tips coming out of the center rear of the truck. Right where my trailer hitch is. Makes me wonder how their going to handle a trailer setup on that SRT-8.

I've got plans for a couple more tweaks like a billet grill, and painting the calipers. The stock calipers aare embossed with the word "JEEP" so I want those to stand out. I've been looking for a CAI for it. I had one on the 4.7L and it worked and sounded AWESOME. But No one has one out for this vehicle yet. It should come soon. I can't wait to open up the breathing a bit bit and hear the growl of that 5.7L open up a bit.

I took a couple of really fast shots in the driveway.

Can't see the pics, but great choice......I'm most likely trading off the STi for an 06 GC Overland 5.7L.

The SRT-8 is awesome, but there won't be any discounts (or anything worth noting). Not to mention its going to be around $45k and won't be out until January.

Glad you are happy with it

Personally, I think the new GC is one of the ugliest cars on the road.

Still have the TL. And the 04 Sebring Convertible, which replaced the 79 MG Roadster (you knew so well, Thank You again).

Let me try some other links to the pics.

Other answers. I'm not a fan of the back end, but it's growing on me. I thought the WJ rear looked better. The front end is nice, and I like the look without the cladding the previous model had. The interior, and the drivetrain though smoke the WJ (99-04 models)

The engine is rated at 330 HP in the GC.

Some shots of the convertible (summer only ride) just pulled it out of storage. It has different wheels and tires from stock as well. The windows have been 20% tint now as well.

It's no rocket. But the 03 and before models had a 165HP V6. It was a dog, and couldn't get out of it's own way. Now their putting in a 200 HP V6, it's much better. It's still nothing exiting as far as acceleration, but those extra ponies make a huge difference. At least you can merge and pass safely.

Sorry about the red X's. Fotki doesn't like it when you "attach" the original uploaded file. They prefer you link to their downsized display versions.

I'm still getting used to the new Jeep's look, but it is a nice car nevertheless! A big improvement over its predecessor.

Very nice rig.......

Personally, I think compared to the WK.......the WJ just doesn't look as good (especially the interior which looks like it was lifted straight out of a minivan).

The WK just looks cleaner and more integrated and has an edgy appearance (vs. the bubble trend of many suvs).

Like Shoofin said.......a big improvement over its predecessor.

Mind you, the Laredo's don't look so hot with all that black trim.

Congrats!! I've always loved the GC. I had a '98 5.9Limited but it was totaled so we got a '99 Limited with the V8. They were both awesome trucks but the '99 had a lot of problems so we sold it a year later.
