that'll buff out
many tire places are like this.... ok maybe not like this, but just, pretty incompetent when it comes to service, and on top of that they try to rip you off.

So the front end doesn't come crashing down when they lower the lift.

In all fairness someone who is not familiar with an Elise would make the same mistake, with out pulling the skid plate in the rear(which is a bit difficult if you don't know what your doing) and you pick up on the normal jacking points the car will teator like that very easily, you need to put weight in the front, or remove the rear skid plate to safely jack up an elise like that.
The only reason I know this is because I was pretty serious about getting an Elise last spring, and was researching like mad... in my travels I found out a fellow local businessman has an elise and I did some work on his and learned a lot about the car. If I could have my little way I would have one as a weekend toy, but I needed money for a new business project

What is the rear skid plate? and why does removing it help with balancing the car on the lift?
Anyway, good way to get new tires..... and a new car!

There is a labeled jacking location towards the rear of the car and a very easy one to get at on the front, the problem is that the car weighs very little and that rear spot is designed ONLY for jacking the whole car up from that spot. If you go to use a 4 point lift and pick up there it will probably do just what happened to this poor chrome orange elise. By removing the rear skid plate it reveals another rear jacking location that is safe to use(its further back) with a 4 point lift. Some people load the interior with stuff to balance it out a bit and risk picking it up with the easy access pick up point, but I don't recommend it. There is a tuner company for Elise parts that make quick release tabs for the skid plate so you can drop it very quickly and easily.
