Is it necessary to put Premium gas (91+ octane) into your 2006 TSX?

I am looking to buy a new 2006/2007 Acura TSX with Navigation. I was reading into it a little more and saw that you are supposed to only put Premium gas, 91+ octane level, into the car.
With gas prices in todays world, this is kind of a killer. Is it necessary to put Premium gas in the car or can you put normal/regular gas in? Will it hurt or damage the car if i put regular gas in?

If you buying a $30k car then you shouldnt be concerned about spending slightly more for premium gas. IMO

Otherwise buy a civic hybrid.

Buy an Accord if you can't afford premium gas.

and you don't have to go as far as buying a hybrid. If you don't care to buy 91 octain gas, buy a civic so you can buy 87 octane.

The car will run on 87, but you better drive like a grandma. If you don't want to spend the extra $3-$4 for premium, then buy an accord. The TSX's engine is a higher compression engine, which needs premium if you're going to push it

of course it's not necessary to put premium fuel in any car. figure it like this though, whatever money you save by not putting premium in, you're killing your gas mileage which, in turn, makes you buy more gas. it's a lose, lose situation. you either pay less for gas more often, or you pay more for gas less often. not to mention, on a 15 gallon tank, it's less than $3 more every time you fill up. if you fill up once a week, you're spending $12 more a month. if you cant afford that, you shouldn't have bought a tsx.

Honestly, the difference from Premium and Regular, after all said and done, the prices were not that much of a difference. If you put 87 octane in the tank, you're going to lack performance and vice versa.

If you don't feel like spending a few bucks more on Premium, then you're better off not buying a 30 grand car.

I am sick of hearing this damn question from people to cause its absolutely stupid. at most you will save $500 dollars a year and its probably only $250 really. If you cant afford that little bit extra then WTF are you doing buying a 30k car.

It is not necessary to put 91 octane. 89 octane is fine, 87 if you must.

I really dont understand people bitchin about putting premium when its required.
Its like the damn Hummer owners complaining "I get shitty gas mileage"

You gotta love my dads theory, he says lower grade gas is made cheaply and thats why he only uses premium. Our 1983 truck and lawnmower both have premium gas.

Thats just a stupid waste of money

Lower compression engines don't benefit from premium

The odds are performance and possibly fuel mileage would suffer from putting a lower octane fuel then what is recommended since the CPU will need to adjust timing, etc. for the lower octane gas.

So no, it will not hurt the car, but in the end you really aren't saving that much. Sure at the pump it's cheaper when you compare premium to regular, but if you are getting reduced performance out of the car with the lower end gas, you'll be filling up more anyway. So again, not much saved in the end.

IMO, it depends on your driving style and what you expect out of your car. The two cars at my place recommend 91 and someone filled them with 89 for their most recent tanks. The TSX (mostly a commuter) still does 28-30 mpg, but the .. other ... car seems to have lost some of its pep (possibly just a placebo effect).
