My wife new ride (not an Acura)....

After driving SUVs for over 10 years, she decided she had enugh of driving "not real cars" and she wanted a very sporty automobile but practical at the same time...and....manual!!! (yes baby!!) ..we got it today....Subaru Impreza WRX STI 5 door full optionals.

Fron now on she will keep company to my TL in the garage...

Two VERY different interpretation of the 300 HP manual AWD sport sedan theme......I love it!!!

TL SH-AWD and STI next to each other in the garage...

Congratz!!

I seriously considered the WRX prior to my TL in 2009 when I had my TSX. I test drove the WRX for so many times it started to tick my wife off. Thought long and hard, very nice power and acceleration; I liked Subie's AWD system for the winters, and the hatchback utility was nice. Plus the price was a "performance bang for the buck."

But what turned me away ultimately was that people were having blown turbos/long blocks back then, and I just didn't want to deal with that. Consumer Reports reliability ratings of the WRX were below average, which was not a selling point. Subaru initially denied any problems existed, but eventually admitted they were trying to be green in their manufacturing process and it costed them in their engine quality; supposedly the long blocks have been fixed.

Keep us updated through out the years on how the Sub's quality fares and how it compares to the Acura. Congratz again!

I definitely did not like the looks of the STi 5 door when it first came out, but since then the looks have grown on me and I like it a lot now. The TL on the other hand... :shakehead

Your WIFE drives an STi? Man you got lucky, you've got a hell of a catch

Anyway, looking good. Not cosmetically speaking, of course.

My wife could care less about driving anything sporty and definitely wouldn't consider any vehicle smaller than say a Nissan Murano.

The WRX is a wonderful car. I just think paying the extra $10K for the STI is a bit much. But I'm sure your wife, OP, has a huge smile on her face when she gets in and starts it up.

The new ones are 2.5L, so it should hold up better than the old 2.0L that was popular with both the Imprezza and the Legacy.

OP: So did you note the button behind the SI Drive knob? that is to adjust the torque split front to rear. I think those are 45/55 from the factory and you can send more to the rear if you like.

Enjoy it.

Edit: The SI Drive, in my car, adjusts the shift patterns. Sport # being the most aggressive, going to redline before shifting. What does it do in a manual? I'm curious.
