My turn to Rant. Check this BULL$H!T OUT!!
Today I picked up my company vehicle for the new job I started. The car is an 08 Hyundai Santa Fe. This is the exact color and wheels, not too bad. Anyway two minutes in it I'm driving along and I find this little antenna and follow the wire under the dash. I call my manager and he tells me it is a GPS to track us reps. The WORST part is it tracks your speed and if you go over 75mph you get warned. Several warnings and you're gone.
Not that I'm looking to break any speed records but FUK, 75 is BULLSSSSHHHIIIIITT!!!!!!

If I paid for a car and gave it to someone else, I would track them/limit their speed too

Well they own the company, so they make the rules. I also have a work vehicle and there is a GPS System as well, but it doesn't track my speed. Just be honest and watch your speed and you will be ok.

HAD to go over 75 to pass? ha ha...ok, good luck explaining that!
I guess I would not LIKE the fact that I'm being tracked, but I wouldn't blame them for doing it. If I had an employee that had a problem with it I'd assume it's because he has a hard time obeying the speed limit without him/her ever even getting into the car.

Ah..yeah, with a line of cars up my rear, when the damn truck got out of the way I got by him as quick as possible.

Agreed, although I guess it wouldn't make a difference.
Ahh, I don't know where you live but here in fukn CT there aren't too many people that drive below 80 on the highways!

I understand your unhappiness, but it is their vehicle. The reason for the GPS is most likely for insurance reasons. You can bet insurance for their company vehicles is quite high, and they need to maintain that they are being used for company use and in a respectful manner. Too much liability if they are used improperly.
And yes, governors are very unsafe. Unless you are aware at all times that it's there, it's very easy for it to activated in a manner that causes alarm. Once activated, it not only becomes a risk to you but to others around you as well.
Personally, it sounds to me they tried to accommodate you with a decent vehicle. It's their insurance and fuel however, and they can do as they please.

Meh.. its Connecticut, no matter where you go, there you are. That state is so damn small and the roads are so crowded you're either stuck at 0 mph or you're already at your destination.

I mean shit, if you hate it so much, just ask if they would compensate you if you used your own personal vehicle so you could go as fast as you please.

I dont get how are some people saying why would you even go over 75...
really? I mean there are times when i drive 65-70 on the fwy but rarely do i do that, most of the time I'm lingering between 75-80.
65-70 feels like you aren't moving anywhere!

I think the company has a right to put a tracker on vehicles they're providing but:
1) They should let the employees know. No excuse not to, unless they're trying to fire someone.
2) IMO 75 is too low of a limit. Not exactly a dangerous speed unless you're an idiot. If I were in your manager's position, I'd set the limit for 85, maybe 80 mph.

Since the OP isn't signing his own paycheck i'd say live with it. There are worse things, you could have a really bad boss that you don't get along with. This is easier to live with.

Leave it to Terry to nail it on the head. I've had several company vehicles over my career. Some tracked with GPS, some limited, others, completely open. Either way, can't complain. It's not my car, not my insurance. And, having owned businesses I can tell you that insuring a company vehicle is ridiculously expensive, so I can't blame them for doing anything they are doing.
That said, they should inform anyone with a company vehicle of the policy. I'm sure it's available online or somewhere, but they should tell (or remind) you as soon as you get the keys.

^^^I do agree with that, they should/could let you know rather than have you walk into a trap since hitting 75 isn't that abnormal in all reality. If you KNOW you can't go 75 you will change your driving style altogether, I'm sure.
I guess as you get older you start realizing that it's not all about me and how I feel about things.

okay, so go ahead and pay for the insurance on the company car and see how happy you are then.
however, i do agree that if there is a policy of x strikes and you are out - then the least they could have done was inform you, or have it within your contract (which it might be).

if your company paid for your health insurance in full, would you complain if they had mandatory check-ups for their workers?
...i am actually ticked off that this topic is of complaint.
