My Sister's New Car

Backs the Pack
...looks like the love child of a Mitsubishi Outlander and a BMW X3. Very generic looking...like Wal-Mart's Great Value peanut butter. You know, I have a Subaru dealership just up the highway from my house and I NEVER see any Subarus in the immediate area....NEVER. Congrats to your sister, though...
Similarly, if you want to see a lot of domestic cars, move to the midwest .

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
I've had the plain one as a loaner, and drove an XT two weeks ago. The turbo 4 has 225 HP, and makes the vehicle easier to live with. If you want a cute-ute with AWD, it's a pretty good car. The only mechanical downside is the 4 speed transmission in the Imprezza and Forrester turbos. That sucks ass. My 2006 Legacy has a 5 speed AT, and it's not that bad.
And agree with the stereo being junk. I ripped my speakers out and installed Polk components and an Alpine Sub. Very nice now.
Portland: Have your sister go to Crutchfield.com and they will outfit the car correctly.

Well after just over six years and nearly 80,000 miles of loyal service, the Forester (ironically nicknamed 'turbo') met its demise this evening when my sister broadsided a CR-V that ran a red light and could have been a LOT worse.
The crash happened at the corner of SW 12th and Alder and on the NE corner of that intersection is a very popular restaurant called Tasty & Alder. There are frequently lots of people eating outside and standing at that corner while waiting for a table. When my sister's car hit his, her airbag went off and the impact drove the car up and over the curb and into the corner of the building. Had the other car gone just a foot or two to the left or right, it would have gone through the giant plate glass windows and right into a building full of people eating dinner. It could have very easily been fatal for those inside so we all got super lucky. The only casualty in the crash was the camera in her iPhone.
We now have to begin to fight the insurance company to get anything resembling a decent settlement for the car including reimbursement for the snow tires and the new battery. Luckily she didn't bother replacing the cracked windshield and it only had 1/8 of a tank of gas. She's already eyeing the XV Crosstrek as a replacement.

Glad she's ok. Shame about the Forester.
Haven't looked at an XV in a while, but I do recall being underwhelmed by the performance, even with the 5MT in it.
They are nice though, like a mini-Outback in Impreza form.

A little update for you all.
'Turbo' was officially declared a total loss and State Farm came back and offered her $16,000 for it. Not bad considering KBB for her car was around $13,000 so I'm guessing they took the popularity of Subarus in the PNW into account before providing that amount. She skipped on the Crosstrek as she found the interior too cramped and wound up buying another Forester in silver. The new one is a 2016 with EyeSight and she loves the adaptive cruise control.

Wait, did it really take them 3 months to settle this? fwiw my mom had a 2011 Forester, she wrecked it (front-end, damaged the battery and acid sprayed everywhere) but the ins. company was very quick to write a check.
I'd imagine since the other guy ran a red, there would be no fight

I'm surprised you didn't get another Hyundai. I like the 04-05 XT with the stick.

She had the car replaced by the beginning of May. I think State Farm settled almost immediately but it was just a matter of getting the check.
