The RA1 will still be around for another year or two. we released very limited sizes of the R888 last month and more will be comming at the end of the year and start of '08.
We mainly have 18 and 19" sizes right now. But the RA-1 is a great tire as well and is available in a bunch of sizes

unfortunately mine won't be fat 245/40/18's. but that might change as I think i'm closer to getting new wheels (or I may widen the stock wheels)

the fact the car doesn't get much traction now....and these will help on the road course and the twisties I could careless about more power
I don't ever see an excuse not to go w/ stickier tires

I get to rock a super peppy honda element everyday

I've heard lots of good reports from some U.K. guys that apparently have been running the R888's at track events for a couple years already. Are the new U.S. versions the same as the ones out in Europe?
I'm almost worn out on my stree tires ...I've been using the RA-1's 17" X 255F/275R and they've held up surprisingly well on the street plus a couple track days on top of that. Still great traction. So I've been keeping an eye out for these R888's if they have them in my sizes. I need a set of 18" too, 265F/285R since I'll be devoting my 17" wheels to track use only.

I need some R compounds for my GTO as well. These cars are so under-tired for their power and weight it is sad. For now I'm looking at a set of Bridgestone RE-01Rs in 245/275 staggered. Post back with your experiences and that may change, if these are available by then!
