Saintor also doesn't know that without a turbo, a naturally aspirated engine starts losing mega power as the elevation climbs... and saintor was driving through the mountains.... yeah, that 118i would've died without the turbo. Or at least he'd be driving at 6000rpm just to have any power.

I'm struggling with this. You say you got a "LIM light in the dash" and googled what it was.

When I google "BMW LIM" or "BMW LIM light" I get all kinds of stuff about the cruise-control type feature, which apparently also has a light in the dash and limits you to some maximum speed (say, "25mph", for example).

But you say later it was limp mode problem and provide a link to similar. Except in the so-called similar condition that user says, " .... a chime and my iDRIVE screen flashed a message stating Engine Malfunction, Reduced Power! An icon of an engine block slashed in half also showed up on my dashboard computer!". That matches what one finds if they Google "BMW Limp Mode". You report NONE of that.

Are you sure you didn't hit the LIM button on the dash? 'Cause, you have to admit, based on your own description, that's what it sounds like.

Waiting for a response calling Bearcat an unintelligent oaf who knows nothing of German automobile engineering.

Well our Civic 2012 1.8L 140HP was doing the same level of performance and mpg. No wonder thing. That 1.5T 136HP is just another toy. Wasn't impressed.

No, that applies only to you, who can't obviously can't control yourself. This guy can.

Bearcat94, what you describe is early 335i E90 old days with HPFP drama, a well known issue. I didn't have that; the only other 'documented' anomaly was "notification:1 fault" on the car diagnostic page in idrive. It came back to 'notification:0' when restarting later.

All in agreement that Saintor had no idea how to operate his technologically advanced 118i, raise your hand!

No, what he's talking about is a general warning applicable to all BMW models. The reduced power mode (aka "Limp Mode") kicks in whenever the car's computer detects circumstances in the operation of the engine that may jeopardize the engine's ability to function. My M5 went into limp mode once when the ambient temperature sensor failed. My 335 had it happen when a cylinder misfired as a result of too much carbon buildup on a valve. It also happened when an injector was going bad. In short, it's not just a HPFP problem.

This is what it looks like (in English, anyway):

Again that is for major malfunction. I still had a fault in the diagnostic page, mind you. Try to push a small turbo for hours in high altitude and come back to us.

Believe what you want, as I said, the fact is minimally ....

Well, I just pushed two turbos in high altitude (9,000 ft.) last weekend on an engine with 147,000 miles and had no problems. But, what do I know?

ETA: You really think an ambient temperature sensor failure is a "major malfunction?" No, it really isn't.

You obviously know nothing about THIS engine.

Car&Driver experienced the same kind of issue I went through.

There are quite a few similar examples on the internet regarding the shared Mini-BMW 1.5T/2.0T.
