My Honda (aka Acura) wouldn't have done that
Once in a while, Saintor gets lost somewhere in a last minute vacation.
This time (and last year too actually), the winner was Spain (and Andorra & France). My favorite way to do it is to just get away, driving among the beauty of nature, discovering places.
So I got a BMW 118i in the mountains of Pyrenées Orientales.
I was very lucky that there wasn't much traffic so I made that little hatchback (a baby, barely 1500 miles) dance. Kinda 8-9/10 level of spirited driving. I used Sport mode (not the Sport +) as it kept ESP on. Overdoing it could mean a sentence of death. Hours of twisties and tires screaming really,.
Then it happened.
No more power. And a big LIM light in the dash. I was at 1600m of altitude. Googling LIM, I learned what to do. Problem was that I couldn't stop safely. No room between the mountains and rail guards. I drove about 5-10minutes, and this poor little could barely exceed 25mph, climbing to 1800m.
I eventually pulled aside.
Here it is, while that 1.5Toy cooled (shame, shame - didn't I say "My Acura wouldn't have done that"?. Yes a Mini-shared engine, 3-cyl. 136HP. And it needed every single of them. Otherwise, loved the format and the incredible balance of the body. I think it had a Sport package, with 17" and M markings. Didn't like at all the transmission gearing, #2-4 are way too tall.
Continued my journey at a pace of 7-8/10. No further issue.
Nonetheless it was an hell of a ride. *Will do it again*.

Seems like not the cars fault but was rather your own user error.
Hello,
I just FDL coded the LIM function (Limit) to my car and I love it.
It's similar to what Cruise Control is but with a twist.
With Cruise Control you set a specific speed and it will hold it until you brake or cancelling it.
With LIM, you set a Maximum you don't want to go beyond and you have free range of speeds below that.
Once you reach the max set speed, the LIM function will not let you go passed it.
If you want to go faster than the set speed, you really need to press the accelerator almost to the floor to speed up passed the LIM set speed.
Anyway, I find the LIM function very useful in some situations. It works great in slow urban areas and where you know there are cops watching.
Below are the codes to change to enable LIM.
KOMBI 3003 SLD_ENABLE aktiv (This one was already set at aktiv in my car)
ICM 3000 C_SLD_Funktion aktiv
ICM 3000 C_Umschaltung_ACC_DCC zugelassen
Now, once you FDL coded KOMBI and ICM, for US cars, you just need to press the SET button on your steering wheel . The system will register this as the set speed.
There will be a green LIM light on the instrument cluster and if you have the HUD, you will see a green "Limit xxx" that tells you your limit set speed. I guess if you don't have the HUD, this info info might be located in the extended instrument cluster.
You can adjust the set speed with the rocker control just below the SET button as you would normally with Cruise Control.
This doesn't disable Cruise Control, it's just a different system.
To have LIM ready to work, the cruise control cannot be ON at the same time.

Every time I'm on vacation anywhere interesting (i.e. Switzerland, California, Tail of the Dragon NC) I'm never in my own car and man all I can do is have day dreams about having been there with my S2000 or CTS-V...
Just last year I accidentally ended up on tail of the dragon in my gf's VW roatan with her and 3 kids... made for a memorable little drive though.
Glad you got off the road safely and got the limp problem sorted out.

Silvercar needs to start offering performance models. Although, depending on the market, they can be quite expensive.

I wonder what would happen if you tuned a leased vehicle? What would happen when you bring it back after your lease?

I don't know what people wants to achieve by tuning a car that is already doing 0-60mph in 5.5s and with decent 5-60. I would rather spend the money on an aftermarket exhaust (as I did on my Bimmer), but that's me.

Because the only thing better than doing 0-60 in 5.5s, is doing 0-60 in 4.9s.

I don't know, I like the discernable difference in power I get from the tune on my car. It's all a matter of preference, I suppose.

Agreed, it's all about preference.
My S4 would was around 300hp / 360tq to the crank on just a software change ... for me? That's not nearly enough

Dammit, I would have actually enjoyed watching that vid if the cam had worked out on that headrest.
My Dad and I had a fuckin ball in Switzerland in my Grandmother's Renault Clio...talk about no power at all, that thing had a hard time just going up anything over 6% grade
Shiet...I took one noisy cat out of my 2.0 (the lower one, not the one in the down pipe) and there's a noticeable growl...adding a high flow downpipe and going with a stage 2 tune would give you both things you want...the performance and the noise.

There's something to to be said about driving a slow car "fast". Especially if it has a manual gear box.
I'm biased, though. I grew up driving slow as fuck manual Hondas and loved them. Then again, neither of my current cars is considered fast by any stretch these days either

Really though, they don't need to be...look at the FRS on a track...or S2000 for that matter...
mashing the gas and getting to speed quickly doesn't make you a good driver.
What I used to love about the TL is I could push it to it's limit and it was still within my limit of control...the V is another story, sometimes it reminds you who's boss

I must be a weetodd for adding bolt-ons and tuning my naturally aspirated 2-door Subaru Corolla. The E85 tune must have only added a paltry ~25 whp/15 wtq by my rough estimation. Why even bother?
The driveability improvements and gains below the curve made a huge difference. I find it hard to go back to that pisswater they call 91 octane.
I went from a car with 300whp/300wtq to a car with half that and found it just fine. At the same time, I doubt BMW engineers really optimized the 1-series for whatever engine comes with the 118i. That's like saying "I'm running Crysis, Ultra everything on my chromebook and it plays like shit"

You must hate Miatas.
Anyway, if it is NOT about the car itself, but as the title suggests, it is about a turbo engine literately giving up (even temporary) when an engine without this toy would have not.
I received a notification from my car rental agency (along with a nice 35 Euros administrative fee) that they had to transmit my info to the Gendarmerie because they were looking for me.
A few days later, I received a fine.. Doing 99km/h in a zone of 90 around Perpignan (France).... that's about 5mph over. That's it? ... Yes your honor, guilty as charged, your honor. lol.

If you bring it back and they discover it then, chances are they'll bring up your lease agreement and see if you're liable to be penalized. Otherwise, if they haven't caught it by turn in, flash it back to stock and they'll never know.

That is not intelligent. Of course it would have, and no need to deal with that LIMP mode. But since you are not interested in small cars talking, pass.

So what he’s saying is the turbo is hurting a 1.5 L engine? This is a bit, right? It has to be a bit. It’s a miracle that tiny thing made it at all.
