I think the napa stores are parts only around here. I did check around and pep boys has a free a/c check and $45 to fill if that's all that's needed.
I can always deny the fill and not pay anything. Pep boys isn't my 1st choice but the price is right.

I don't think it's the a/c but possibly the hvac control in the dash.
I went to use the heat this morning and it blew cool air. So i am thinking it could be a loose connection or bad something.

Not sure if you fixed it yet, but I had repeated problems on my TSX with the A/C relay. One minute the A/C would be cold, a few minutes later warm and humid. Sometimes turning the car off, going into a store, and turning it back on would be enough for the cold air to return, but other times not. The relay went bad 3 times in a matter of 2-3 years, so it was rather annoying.

Thanks ravi. The wife says it's really plain but since i only drive it to work, i don't really care.

luv, that's almost exactly what's happening. It is so strange b/c there really isn't a pattern. When it's cold, it's ice cold. I try different things to get it to come back on.

I may have to look into a relay for it.

I replaced the headlights last night. It really cleaned up the front of the car. When i took off the front bumper, i noticed that it was an aftermarket. The headlights were $80 shipped for both and fit pretty well, just not like oem. For $80, i'll survive.

My first tank was 32.8 mpg, that's much better than my 20 in the rl.

You got that right.

This morning i swapped relays for the ac and it was cold the entire ride in. I'll see how it is in the heat this afternoon.

Nice pick up, I'm going to have to do a bunch of commuting for school this fall and might possibly switch out the MDX for a Civic.

lol, you're probably right.

It's not the relay, i switched it this morning. I went to pick up lunch and the ac would work and then do the same thing. It seems when it's hot out it shuts off.

you need a new expansion valve. 14 dollar part and its located under your glovebox. glove box is removed with 4 screws and then you have to undo the condensor plastic to get to the expansion valve. you will need to vacuum the system at a mechanic if u wanna DIY

if you do decide to DIY you will disconnect the AC lines under the hood from the firewall and the condensor comes right out.

i seriously thought about it today. I was thinking about taking it tomorrow, but i have to drive to the out-laws from work this weekend. I'll deal with the heat for the better gas mileage.

alright, for knowing something about cars i should have paid attention to this one. When the temp gauge goes up the ac goes off. That sounds like a safety feature to keep the temps down.
The coolant does come out of the overflow.

I was on the highway for about an hour doing between 70 and 80 mph and not once did the temp go up. When i stopped at the grocery store and came out and started to move again the temp went up and the a/c went off.

At least i am noticing a pattern here.

-oil is clean
-no leaks other than the overflow doing it's job
-a/c compressor goes off wheen temp begins to climb

I am thinking it may just be a thermostat as the water pump was just replaced with the timing belt.

When on the highway yes most of the time. But sometimes it starts to creep up all the way to H. It seems the warmer the air temp is, the more it will fluctuate.

When i leave work @ 5pm and drive about 5-8 minutes, that is wheen the a/c kicks off and gets warm. For some reason i never once looked at the temp gauge.

In the morning it doesn't seem to do it at all.

I wonder if when they did the tb/wp if there was something that they needed to do to burp the system.

When I've had coolant flushed twice now they've neglected to get all of the air in the system. There is a bleeder valve to let it out. Worth a try.

Your cooling fan(or fans) could be bad. When you use the A/C system, the system generates heat and pressure and those fans are used to cool the system down to reduce the pressures. If they don't work, the pressures climb in the a/c system and the car will shut the compressor off to prevent the a/c from blowing a hose.

Would also explain the car overheating since the fans also cool off the radiator.

It may be a bad fan clutch-- that occurred on 2 prior cars of mine, w/ same symptoms as your Civic.

fans work. I thought about the fan clutch, but that wouldn't explain the rising coolant temps.

I'll replace the thermostat since that's the simplest option. I'm hoping it's not a head gasket.

The temp gauge was just below the halfway mark the entire way to work. I even put the a/c on to try and get it hotter. The real test will be after work.

If they forgot to bleed the coolant after replacing the water pump at the honda dealer, i am going to be a little upset with them.

The temp gauge didn't move at all on the way home. I even ran it with the ac while it was 75 degrees out. That's no match for 85-95, but i hope that solved the problem.

The good news is the car isn't overheating any longer. The warmer is gets outside, the less it works. It may actually just need refrigerant.

Just remember to release the hand/emergency brake when you try to pull off the drums to change the cooked pads/shoes.

lol, that was the first thing i did. When i went to spin the tire i noticed that the e-brake was on.

Those little mother f-in drums are a pain in the butt to do, but i got them done and i'll see if it actually stops me now.

I replaced the front rotors and pads too. I was getting a grinding feeling/noise when stopping. The pedal was also pulsating when braking. I am assuming the PO didn't bed the brakes properly, it must be a female thing.

I replaced the mt fluid, oil/filter, flushed the ps fluid and will flush the brakes when the wife comes home. I have a motive brake bleeder but it doesn't have the attachment for hondas.

The one thing i noticed was that the passenger front bushing on what looks to be the lower control arm has a small tear. I am assuming it's pressed in there so i would probably have to replace the whole thing.
