Mom's birthday - SC430/E500/A4, etc?
Okay, I need everyone's advice. It's gonna be my mom's birthday in about a month and she's getting a car for it. She's a little lady and she kinda wants a convertible but also likes the Benz name plate (damn Injuns!). Lexus/BMW aren't out of the question either. I don't wanna get her anything that'll be refreshed soon, and she doesn't need a lotta sport or anything, just something comfy. I'm sure in this price range, all the cars will have atleast a little oomph.
We're looking to spend under 50k, and the cars can be used (under 20k miles).
The SC430 is great from what I hear but the backseat is a joke and it is a little bit pricey, still. Input?
The 05 SLK was a possibility but she wants something more practical. The older SLK, needless to say, is out the question.
The A4 convertibles look kinda nice to me but Audi takes a hit for reliability and also it's like 35k new so it might be a bit under budget.
Right, this is where I shut up and you chime in. Thanks.

SC430. I dunno. For some reason... I just really like that car. What does she really need that back seat for anyway? Toyota/Lexus reliability and status.
-Downside is Ashlee Simpson drives one. She annoys me.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
Well the A4's being refreshed in a year or two so that may go against what you mentioned. The new SLK probably has enough cargo space for a couple bags of groceries.

$50,000 damn! she can get an 04 s2000 with money to spare for mods if she wants a convertible. or tell her to give you the money and it'll be a surprise.

Also, she likes the car too, but she says that if it's gonna have 4 seats, they might as well be useable.

Heh. S2000 seems so un-mom like. That'd be cool if your mom was actually willing to go with mods though. But then again. There's something just a little creepy about that.
(which reminds me of someone I knew in high school who bought an '02 WRX right when it came out ((right about the time I bought my '01 CL)). He got rims for it, hella lowered it, debadged it, had a Blitz emblem on the front, tinted, various other mods of sorts. I then one day, saw his mother driving it without him in the car. It was the silliest shit I'd ever seen in my life. Oh yeah. It had bomb exhaust too. I thin that's what put it over the top
)
-My vote still goes to the SC430. I would think she would never ever have anything bad to say about that car... EVER.

E500, new A6, Jag XJ8......all very nice sporty cars.
Want a vert, SC430 isn't a bad car (just kind of ugly imho). The CLK 500 Vert is nice, little too much plastic in the interior though.

So it's down to these three:
SC430
E500
CLK500
I'm leaning most toward the SC430 cause of Lexus customer care/interior quality/standard navi & hardtop convertible. The SC looks okay to me, but nothing great.
The benzes carry that nameplate and I think the E class looks fucking nice. Not so much "nice" on the CLK but the absence of the B-pillar is also awesome.
How about some final thoughts?

i still think that mercedes has a nicer ring to it than lexus...
spec wise they both match up pretty nicely, with the hardtop being a plus for the lexus...
something about the clk500 just stands out as a nicer car to me...

If you've narrowed it down to either MB or Lex. I would look at the reliability and maintanence costs. All three cars are very classy. If it were me I would probably choose the Lex for reliability. Who wants to be driving a loaner call all the time.
