Just me, luckily. Couple scrapes, shocking for how the car looks.
That looks serious! Sorry about your accident. If you haven’t already done so, please get checked out. Adrenaline has a way of hiding things. I had a traumatic brain injury after my civic was totaled. We wouldn’t have known had my pop not urged me to do so. God bless
Got a roadside check by EMTs, vitals were all good. Some localized soreness this morning, but nothing severe. Maybe a 2/10 scale.
EMTs said the same, anything feels even remotely off, go get a real check.
Going to go look at it in daylight later today & make sure I got everything out last night.
Then starts the process of getting it replaced. Probably not another FiST. None local that are appealing. they're either older, or black/red. 1 silver with Recaros, but it's priced even higher than mine was, and is a year older.
Ha, well out of my budget.
Started a bit of browsing today, similar budget to the FiST. Some decent though less exciting options out there. No idea how long ins will take before I can get serious about looking.
Just got back from the wrecker lot. Snapped a few shots.
Surprisingly, they got all 4 windows up, thought for sure the driver's door was fubar. It actually opened easier than the RF door.
A week later & I'm finally in a rental.
2025 Hyundai Elantra. From what I can tell, it's a step below the Limited, Maybe a SEL Sport
Not bad, for an econobox.
Went & looked at a 2018 JLU Sport S, on a whim, that had relatively low miles & a good price.
Fairly crusty underneath like it had spent a lot ofmtime at the beach. Needed a clutch. No hardtop and the vinyl windows were quite hazy.
More likely options, at the moment.
Likely looking for something I'll drive for 18 months & give to my oldest when she turns 16.
Looked at a 2020 Hyundai Kona and a new '25 Elantra Hybrid Sport.
The Kona drives a lot like the Fiesta, but not as peppy, and taller. Strong contender, if I can find a CPO to keep the 100k warranty.
The Elantra has some appeal in Hybrid form for a commuter, the 50mpg would be nice, and there's some big discounts on leftovers 25s.
Wranglers are fun off road but suck ass on road. They are also not that great with regard to crash safety when it comes to your kid driving it.
I'd just buy the Elantra or Kona or whatever one has the lowest insurance cost lol.
Honestly, a good recommendation might be to look at a used Model 3 SR or LR. Both can be had for cheap, require no service, and are incredibly safe in crash safety.
Yeah, this one seemed too good to be right, and it was.
It really just sucks since the FiST likely can't be replaced for what I'm likely to get for it.
Seems like comparable ones are $12-16k, and I found 2 within 800 miles of Houston.
We'll see what insurance comes woth on their first offer, but I'm not optimistic.
Not ready to go EV yet. Partial EV like the Elantra Hybrid, maybe.
Not opposed to either, Forester even, too.
Not really ruling anything out completely, other than the Germans & Italians. As much as I'd like a GTI or Giulia.
Looking at 2016+ & under 100k miles. that alone gives about a billion Nissans & rentals car specials. A lot to weed through.
Got the first settlement offer from ins. Better than expected, but still low.
They took 4 comps to come up with a value. 1 ST & 3 SEs. Had to dispute on incomparable models.
2016+ with under 100k on the clock, there's only like 26 STs on the market, nationwide, via AutoTrader. 3 within 500 miles of Houston. Then weed out those that are worn, or modified, and the pool is even smaller.
Deal is done. 4 hrs at the dealer, they were slammed and understaffed in finance.
2018 Subaru Legacy Limited
One owner, their 8th Subaru, bought and maintained at the dealer where I bought it.
Pretty immaculate 8yr old car, a tiny door ding on the RR door, and a small crack in the plastic of the RS mirror. Interior looks perfect.
Had planned to go look at a 20 Sport, but it sold the night before.
Eyesight, HK stereo.
Literally looks like it was bought and parked in a garage and the odometer edited. It's about as close to showroom condition as an 8 yr old car could be.
