BMW M3 CSL Concept

File
Make: BMW
Model: E46 M3 CSL
Words

If you think the BMW E46 M3 monster wasn't fast enough for you, BMW has designed the even punchier and lighter concept M3 CSL. BMW calls it a Lightweight concept car which may not be in the mass production.

It's power have been upped to more than 350bhp claims BMW. This is done by streamlining the cylinder charge and utilizing ultra-low friction internal parts. The "regular" 6-speed manual gearbox has been binned for the all-new SMG-2 sequential gearbox which drives the 19" M wheels.

Since this is BMWs lightweight concept car, the regular M3's weight of near 1500kg has been shaved to about 200kgs lighter to improve CSL's handling. All this is accomplished by using a variety of carbon fibre manufactured roof, doors, front air dam, dashboard center console, interior trims even the wing mirrors. All front and rear seats have been thrown and only the fronts will have lightweight racing bucket seats. The rear glasses have been replaced with lightweight items. The air conditioning and central locking will stay but airbags and so does the BMW Toolbox will have to leave. Even the insulation materials below the seats and carpets are made from Aerospace-inspired honeycomb, magnesium and lightweight foam.

With all the weight shaved and power increased, the M3 CSL have clocked a lap 30 seconds faster than the "regular M3" in Nürburgring in a stunning time of under 8 minutes.

Hope BMW will mass produce this one despite heavy usage of ultra-exotic materials which will also "up" the price of this pure everyday-racecar.
