I'm not putting any faith in the MMC RL. Sales of the new TSX and TL should be good enough to keep Acura stable until 2010.

The new 'Accord based' (see Not Tier One) TSX and TL will be around until 2014 at the earliest. Which means Acura's Bread and Butter cars won't be teir 1 when 2010 rolls around. So how exactly will a VERY low volume 100K sports car help in 2010?

CURSES! CURSES! You've uncovered Acura's ploy...now they have to come up with something else to tell people to convince them to "wait until 20xx! We'll be tier 1 by then!"

If you're going to post detailed info like this, you gotta post a link to the source (a reputable news source, not just another forum)...

<--- too lazy to google for it now..
I have a direct RSS feed to automotive news articles from Yahoo.

Check every manufacturers press release, you won't find a single incorrect number that I posted.

Plus, I am too lazy to post 13 different links.

They sold 1496 in March (launch was March 22nd IIRC):

1-series 2008 MY is gonna be limited production... Since the dollar is in the toilet, BMW has a small profit margin on the car, so they are going to limit supply to try to get prices up (i.e. close to MSRP). They also aren't going to do a big ad campaign on the car either.

I said the Tier One cars will START to roll out after the NSX, not the Acura lineup will switch to Tier One at a snap of a finger once the new NSX rolls out. Acura has stated alread that it will take them 3-5 years to be what they want to be. In less than 3 years we will have a new NSX and in 5 years a new TSX and TL. In between that time they will have the opportunity to introduce a Tier One RDX, MDX, RL and whatever other models they are planning on adding.

So what were they doing in the 15+ years that have passed since the original NSX?

Point taken , but 4 model years after 2010 is a long time in the automotive world.

Probably lux cars under 90-100K, as I don't see the BMW 6 series listed...
yeah,... just seems odd. Porsche is more "ultrasport luxury" than plain luxury.

If the cars that are coming out in the next 1-3 years had come out a couple years ago, I think people would have gone for them, but now it is really questionable, IMO.

It's really too bad, because I was just about set on buying a diesel TSX. Now I'll have to see what diesel prices do in the next couple of years.

Plus add to that the fact that the US utilizes catalyst cracking methods so we produce much more gasoline per barrel than the rest of the world so an increase in heavier hydrocarbon fuel demand (ie diesel) will just drive the cost of diesel through the roof. Diesel is NOT the panacea many claim it to be since just like hybrids the don't consider the total picture. If you have a efficient diesel NOW you can still reap rewards, when the diesel engine invasion hits our shores you will be VERY sad when you pull up to the diesel pumps!

I wonder how they actually chose what cars they were going to count for each manufacturer.

I see in the Audi lineup there is the A4(which is being replaced in a few months with a new model) but no A3, no A5 and no TT. I don't have hard numbers on those but you have to assume the Audi number would at least double if they were included.

I'm sure there are similar occurences in the other manufacturer lineups.

Not surprising most luxury cars I see are Bimmers. Cool but kind of makes me want to own a car thats not as popular.

A years after the introduction of NSX, Soichiro Honda died, and the 2nd gen NSX plan disappeared. Days with Soichiro Honda were more "engineering" driven, while the new management cared about business (profit) more.
