Lower your gas prices.

What method(s) are you using to save money at the pump?

- Using a gas credit card that offers a discount or rebate?
(Which card and what is the rebate?)
- Gas club associated with retail store (Sams Club, Costco, Kroger, etc...)?
- Drive off without paying (kidding)?
- Discount for paying cash?

How else are you getting creative to save money on premium gas?

snax 09-16-2008 02:22 PM

BTW: I am using the BP Visa (by Chase).
5%-10% rebates on participating BP/Amoco purchases (10% for the first 2 billing cycles)
2% rebates on eligible travel and dining purchases (4% for the first 2 billing cycles)
1% rebates on other eligible purchases (2% for the first 2 billing cycles)

Here's what I do:
1) Work from home a day or two to cut down on commute miles.
2) Use an AMEX credit card that offers a 5% rebate on gas from Costco (and smaller rebate percentages on travel and purchases)
3) Drive in a more efficient manner (i.e. more coasting and less time on gas and brakes, bundle several trips, etc.).

Consumer reports just had a good review on the gasoline credit cards...

I'm using Discover Open Road, 5% off the gas. The BP I also hear great things about.

potsu 09-16-2008 03:21 PM

here's what i do:
-maintain a proper tire pressure
-a clean air filter
-no jack rabbit starts
-going from 70-85 mph on the freeway to 60-65 mph
i'm averaging 29-30 mi to a gallon

Here's what I do...
I rob 4 gasoline tankers.

Sometimes my partners get shot and the last tank flips over and blows up with a rather small explosion.

usaf2008 09-16-2008 03:26 PM

I just fill the gas tank with 7/8 water 1/8 octane booster.....fills the car up for 8 bucks! just kidding, for gods sake don't try that.

I have a Citibank card that gives me cash back on everything; gas, groceries, and drug stores get twice as much. It used to be the best card, but now I believe it's the second best reward (cash back) card out there. Beyond that, just normal maintenance on the car. If they ever let us work from home part of the time, I'll drive less, but I don't foresee that any time soon. My driving style hasn't changed, nor will will it.

I've been using discover's gas card for a couple years now. 5% off any gas, and I think, but not sure, on any automotive related purchase as well. 1% off everything else.

you can also ask if theres a cash discount.

Discover's Gas Card, I limit my driving by combining chores into one or two trips during the week. And just to rub it in, I always buy my gas on military bases because it's always about 12 cents less on average than gas stations out in town. :-)

Interesting...
I don't do anything other than maintaining speed and not braking and accelerating if I don't have to.

What is this Discover gas card? I have a Discover card that I use for gas. Should I call them up?

stright-(paint)balling 09-16-2008 04:57 PM

take the bus. you'll save a lot of gas.

Trackruner228 09-16-2008 06:03 PM

Live on campus so you only flip up every other month.

elezam 09-16-2008 07:02 PM

Ive been taking it easier on the pedal, and coasting when I get a chance. Ive been getting 10 more mpg since I stopped using my heavy foot.

majin ssj eric 09-16-2008 07:17 PM

I just don't worry about it....

Never Summer 09-16-2008 07:47 PM

I haven't changed my driving habits, I just fill up once every two weeks like normal.

fsttyms1 09-16-2008 08:07 PM

I quit pissing and moaning about prices, quit looking at the price and just fill up.

phile 09-16-2008 08:28 PM

prices are starting to lower :what: I just drove by some gas stations tonight and saw like 3.67. It's been hovering close to 3.80's or 3.90's and sometimes even topping 4.00 for the past few months.

 @ your av fsttyms

fuzzy02CLS 09-16-2008 08:43 PM

Drive less & group errands. My actual driving habits have not changed in years.

I find the gas on base here in Jax to be about the same or at times higher than out in town. Glad your getting a good price.
