i won't lie. They are intoxicating. I just can't sustain it any longer. I don't know how some people daily this car. It was fun when I was really into it. But my last track day I was meh. So that's when I realized it might be time

The one I test drove had the Touring Pack on it, sales guy said the Track Pack would be a tough sell as a daily.
The Touring was firm, but not overly so.

Maybe I missed it but ...Trancemission - why wouldn't you go for a Focus RS over the Type R?

Actually, the opposite.
I bought the toy hauler so I could camp when I raced... make a weekend out of it and a lot of other racers camp. Then I started the business last September. Much to my (great) surprise, it's done well. Problem is if I only have one client and I'm not racing, towing the toy hauler is overkill... so I would move everything to my 6x12 enclosed trailer and take that. It became a pain switching my tools and parts back and forth, so I decided to sell the toy hauler AND my 6x12 and invest in one larger enclosed trailer (7x20'). That way I can just have one trailer and not have to keep shuffling stuff around. I won't be racing full-time this year to focus on growing the business, so I don't need to worry about camping. If I do race (like I did this weekend), I'll just arrive the morning of the race, setup, race, then come home. But regardless of if I'm with clients or racing myself... I can keep everything in one trailer.
So, toy hauler sale should be done today if UPS will ever show up with the check. I have another racer who wants to buy my 6x12, and my new trailer (which was much less than my toy hauler) should be here this coming weekend. I'll have it vinyled with my logo and will be ready for the rest of the season

You didnt miss it. I really didnt explain. A few reasons really.
One, the back end of the car. I tried hard to like it. But I had doubt. We all know when you have doubt then theres no doubt. But second, it was just too busy. Like they over did it. Believe me I looked at it everyday wondering if I could see myself in it. What pushed me over was 20 inch wheels, that and its set up pretty much to track. Here in Dallas 20in wheels dont last long. Plus I guess my back is just done. I can barely get the Lotus to the track before I wanna shoot myself let alone driving the Type R everyday. So since I had a GTI I knew the R would be a little more refined which is why I didnt go with the focus. That and theyre mid 40's anyway. At the end of the day I wanted to be back in a stick. So the R for me ended up being the best bet. Ive been reading the Type R turbo mount is cast into the head kinda like they did with the 3G TL head. So modding it would be difficult.
Plus I fucking stole this car. It sat on a Mercedes lot for almost 50 days. They were desperate. I decided I needed to jump on it now. The sales guy owned a GTI so we spoke the same language. Plus with just one simple APR tune its 80HP and 100lbs of torque.
I tried man, but I couldnt do it. I also didnt want someone at every light fucking with me. ugh, I sound old.

Mine is touring and sport. It beats you up. But on the track, its heaven. It spoils you. Im advanced solo and I dont consider myself good. I had an instructor take me in mine and I knew it would be a lifetime before I could replicate what he was doing. Plus he was braking so late I nearly shit myself every corner.

^ Sums it up for me as well. Just too racer for a DD.
Though, price dependent, I'd be more inclined on the RS than the Golf R. But, it's been years since I've driven any sort of Golf.

the civic does look too busy. I love everything about it, besides it's totally boy racer looks. Cops and 16-21 year olds would know you on a first name basis with that thing

trance, did you look into the reliability of the Golf R before buying it? Guessing yours is still under warranty but what are your plans for when it's out? I have the same dilemma but I feel far more comfortable with the Focus RS or CTR long term than the Golf R. I just can't stand the looks of the CTR though I understand that's the point of it.

If its anything like my GTI then we have nothing to worry about. I have a buddy who was one of the first 500 to get the 2015 blue Golf R. He has that APR tune. He hasnt reported one issue as of yet. I dont plan on doing anything until the warranty is up. Im having fun with the almost 300hp right now

So that settles it. We agree. I dont think we'd be having this conversation if they wouldve just released Type Rs in the states like they do in Europe. All this wait for the Hype R was not worth it.

Man E., when you told me you didn't want the CTR because of the looks, I understood completely; you'll have to be a die hard Honda fan or think the looks won't bother you since you'll be inside it.
Selling the Lotus though, is still a shock to me. At this point, I find it synonymous with you. But, your reasons are unquestionable and at least you're in no hurry to sell it. I'm just glad I got to experience a session with you in it that even had its own butt-clenching moment. Perhaps one day before the sale, we can swap cars for a few hours.
Or at least, get you some nice for-sale shots.

Congratulations on the Golf R! I've driven two tuned GTIs and they're a blast
The Type R is way too busy and overdone for my taste

The R has that new Gen 3 TSI as well. With a K04. My guys who tune it said, just get the tune, thats all you need right now. Puts me at over 350. Cant imagine what intake downpipe and exhaust would do.

Not gonna lie, I think the Golf R was a better choice.
