Lexus IS250 204hp? WTF ? lol....

I see plenty of them on the road so im sure most people dont care about power.

A4 - 200hp
328 - 230hp
TSX - 205hp
C280- 228 hp
X-type- 227 hp

Seems about right in its market segment. Not sure i would call it a "bucket" just because it lacks power.

i can remember back when over 200 hp from a sedan was a lot and nowadays, it's way below average. crazy how the horsepower war just keeps on going. imagine what kind of numbers cars will be putting down in the near future... sedans with power like the M5 and E55 are are going to be the new industry average.

^^ That's right. People just care about "status".

Although, for $289/month, I am in for an A4 lease

Well i guess it is in the lower end of the range, definitely a nice car still....
btw i use the word bucket very loosely..lol...
I was just not expecting a 100hp difference between the 250 vs 350
That is a big difference..

The IS250 is just right for its market, as someone else mentioned. 200hp is plenty for most people to merge and pass decently on the freeway and around town. When shopping in this market segment, I think people tend to be drawn more towards looks, feel, and brand name, which is why Lexus sells more 250s than 350s. Besides, most people are not interested in revving and flooring it from a stop light. Myself included.

I agree with all the above. I thought the same with the IS250...but ater driving my 00 tl for years, and my wife's old 98 v6 accord, and my current sc300, that hp range is not so bad for everyday. MORE than enough unless you just wanna blast by people. But for everyday driving, you really don't need more than 200 hp to comfortably blow past the avg driver. Just to blow by the avg 911 driver going 85+..but then again, if yuo're doing that on the street then you are racing and that's a big nono...

IS250 comes with AWD while the 350 doesn't if I remember correctly, that can be the other option for a buyer

mileage is also a big factor these days. I'm sure they're also leaving a big buffer for an upgrade path for the 250

not that i would buy one but another good attribute regarding the IS250 is that you can get it in manual. Lexus screwed up royally by refusing to provide a manual tranny option in the Is350- one of its main criticisms.

yup, exactly while i bought my 250awd. and those saying the G35 is less then the IS loaded, yea your right, but for what you get between the two and the is250's interior is so much nicer. it's a quick car until about 90 when u get to the top of 4th gear. but 1-4 gears are close together giving it pretty good acceleration. i've had mine for 3 weeks and got #8925 of 9500 total IS's for 2007.

About 95% of the 2G IS models I have observed on the road have been the IS250.

As for its comparison with the 2G G35: G35 FTW. ( extra 102hp + 83 lb-ft >>>> marginally better interior )

IS250 is a nice car, but is a ripoff for the price when you can get either G35, TL, and even the ES350 for the same price depending on how you option it.

Even the 1st gen IS300 could beat the IS250.

If I was going to find a replacement for the TSX, unfortunately I wouldn't look at the IS250 because it's smaller than the TSX and I want something with more than 204hp and has bigger overall interior space.

I have to admit... whenever I walk by an IS (250 OR 350), I always peek inside... and they are nice... VERY NICE. When I took my FX in for service one time, they gave me a G35 loaner, and it didn't even come close to the IS-interior wise. (but it was an 06' G35, not sure if the 07's are better or have any changes)... but it was FAST tho... faster than my ol' TL-S, that's for sure.

^ The wood interior is nice.

I think Lexus interiors in general are nice and inviting. But I couldn't bring myself to liking the new ES350's interior. The slanted wood on the center console annoys the hell out of me.

Not sure if the 07 has a better interior or any other changes? Someones been living under a rock I see...

ALL G35s regardless of trim level or options have that big 7" screen. Something Lexus can't touch.

I dunno man... that screen looks big enough to me...

personally, I like the wood over the aluminum

and this is coming from someone that owns an Infiniti with aluminum dash

Screen in the IS is fine, except it doesn't come STANDARD.

oh and the G35 also offers a wood interior, but they didn't choose the glossy look.

so, I don't understand... with the G35, a navi screen is STANDARD? Or are you saying that with the IS, you can opt. for a smaller screen?

and c'mon... you gotta admit... that "none glossy" wood is pretty bad...

that is a very very ugly interior..looks like something kia would come up with.

infiniti makes a good bang for the buck car, but still rough around the edges and the interiors are still compared to lexus or even acura.

The G35 interior is a HUGE (can't emphasize that enough) upgrade over the previous model but, to me, it falls behind the 3-series, A4, TL, and IS (maybe even the new CTS and C-class when they come out).

Personally, I like options and simplicity (in the dash). You can get wood and aluminum with every interior leather color BMW makes....which is something Infiniti and Acura don't do. Yes, you pay more for it, but if I want a sport package equipped sport sedan with wood interior, I can't get that at Infiniti or Acura, so I will pay more for the Lexus, BMW, or Audi model that does offer it.

1. I'm saying that all G35s come with a 7" LCD screen standard, it's used to display all the information such as audio, climate etc etc, but navigation is optional. It has NAV traffic too though.

2. I'll admit that the wood combo in the picture I posted isn't great looking, but it sure as hell doesn't look like shit. I'll give the nod to the IS here.

3. I think the IS250 is a nice car, but IMO it's pretty damn overpriced. Starts at 31k and it's pretty damn bare. You need to get a $1200 dollar option to get leather and wood in it. You want HID headlights? Pony up another 3500 for another package. You want NAV? that's a 4000 dollar package.

no argument here about the overpriced sticker... on one hand the starting price for the IS250 is (like you said) $31k, but to my understanding... a loaded IS350 is in the mid to high 40's

...and I know you were referring to someone else when you said "Hater" but just to make sure you know... I LOVE my FX, and I LOVE the G35's... and just about the whole Infiniti lineup...
I was simply saying how, everytime I walk by an IS250/350, I can't help but notice the impressive interior... that's all I was saying... and also the loaner I had from the dealership was an 06' G35 and perhaps, since it's a loaner... the interior was kinda beat... the aluminum and plastic had scratches that couldn't go un-noticed, for a car that only had 6k miles

and yes, I'd get a G35S before I get an IS350 too

^ I was kidding about the hater comment, hence why I said "na different strokes for different folks" right after.

Oh and I'm not trying to force you to like the G or get you to not like the IS, just saying my opinion on what I think of the two cars.

The IS is a beautiful car, and it's a good one too. My only gripe is that it's IMO overpriced for the IS250 version, and it's tiny useless backseat.

I think if the IS250 had ~240hp it'd be a much more attractive value. 205hp in a car that typically sells for 33k minimum is just plain weak shit.

BMW has it just right with 230hp in it's base car. Lexus is still the underdog of the top 3 so I think 240-250hp in it's base car would give it a nice edge over the competiton.

I also think Infiniti should offer a smaller engine variant of the G, say a G25 with 240hp, but the G35 already offers IS350 perforance at IS250 price so i dont know...

anyways yeah enough with the tangent lol

i say Acura brings back the CL and have a 3.5 V6 Type-S running just around 300hp to compete against the G. but ehh..acura never listens.
