even with the paddle shifters... you or the transmission is going to be really busy shifting up and down all day long. think about how annoying that'll be during quick accels and decels..

let's say you were doing about 40 in 6th or 7th gear.. then you want to accelerate manually (using shifters), so you slam the gas then make the judgement whether you want to go down 3 or 4 or even 5 shifts to get up to your desired speed.. wow thats a headache.. so whats the purpose of the 8th gear?? if its meant to be used for crazy top end speeds i guess i'll understand, but dont you think this car will be limited to 155mph anways? and if it was meant for gas saving purposes.. isnt even 5th of 6th gear enough??

or maybe theyre just showing off that they can make a car with 8 speeds for the hell of it. a few months down the road Mercedes will probably announce 9 or 10 speeds.......

For some reason, the IS does nothing for me. Not saying it's a bad car by any means, but it just doesn't catch my eye whatsoever. I still don't understand why Lexus refuses to offer an MT.

I have a 6 speed in my IS now, you don't feel the shifting. It's nearly seemless. I have never felt a tranny more smooth than this one...

The ISF will have throttle "blips" on downshifts as well to match engine RPMs.

I still don't think this tranny can compete with DSG though. Yes, it does the DSG's "blips" to match revs on downshifts, but unlike DSG, it does not have a twin clutch setup which could allow for extremely quick downshifts if needed. But hey, we'll see when it comes out.

I test drove the GTI w/ DSG, and all I can say is that it is an absolute MASTERPIECE. Launch Control makes all 200 HP feel like you've got an awful lot more, no waste at all.

I dont know what they were smoking, but that is one ugly lexus. the hump on the front needs to be leveled. The stacked tailpipes makes the car look narrow and tall. definitely a step backwards in design.

Didn't for me. Actually looked worse. Its by no means an ugly car and I'd gladly take one. Just looks awkward. And riced out.

You think the 335i coupe is ugly, so we know your taste in cars are a little off.

So they say yet they wont announce any pricing or real power figures.

My guess is that they waiting to hear what the M3 will be offering.

I've seen the IS-F in person ... I thought it looks better in person than in photos.

That being said, I don't think it's really all that nice. The paint job they had on it was fantastic -- candy blue (that's what I would call it). But the bodykit they put on it ... doesn't seem to 'flow'. The bulge in the hood -- love it or leave it. I just don't think it seems to work. The whole is not the sum of its parts this time around.

I do think it's a good thing when Lexus decided to try something risque. At least it's not boring and you're not going to please everybody. I think this is one of the first Lexus models in recent history that shouts -- "Look at me!" (The 1st gen IS300 was just an Altezza with a very busy (and rather cheap looking) dash + Lexus badges.)

bottom line, its good to see Lexus has decided to drop one of their v8s into the is platform finally. and some performance cars just aren't lookers, ie. STi/EVO etc.

Right, because the car was in built running form and then the day the M3 gets announced, its back to the drawing board to offer more/less? Come on dood, does that make any sense?

Autoweek reported those statistics incorrectly... That applies to the LF-A, not the IS-F.

Sorry, I was just waiting for someone to post this. It cracks me up whenever someone replies with this. If someone doesn't like the way a car looks they're automatically a jealous hater... nevermind that most people who are active on this board could afford it no problem

Anyway, sorry to go offtopic there. The IS-F is nice, but i have yet to see it in person, so I'm witholding judgement until I do. I do like the regular IS though... so I'm sure I'll love the IS-F when I see it.

Err its not that hard to get more power if they wanted to im sure. If they just need an extra 10hp at the crank to be ahead of the M3, then im sure they could just adjust something small to do it.

Its all about marketing dood.

The hood and tail pipes are terrible. I'll take a 335CI anyday. The modability on the bimmer is far more than the IS.

What I REALLY want in a car is one that I, and I alone, like to drive. I could give four (just not two like everyone else) shits less what some prick thinks because I drive a Lexus or a BMW or an Acura. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...or the guy holding the wheel, ripping through the gears and driving the damn car.

i'm hoping that seeing the IS-F in person will look better than in pictures.

i mean, i still turn my head whenever i see an IS on the road. i think it looks that good. but to me, the IS-F looks so riced out. the kit just looks too excessive. and i don't like the looks of the exhausts. but who knows, maybe that will all change.

but the paint job from pics from the auto shows looks very nice. and i like the rims and its color.

i wish they would have thought of making this on the last generation IS. the newer one just looks like a shrunken GS whereas the older one looked more racer-ish and would have been a more appropriate bodystyle to support the new engine.
