I like to call it summer time but if you would rather call it global warming I understand that.

For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

I thought we were talking about shipping a Lambo to London

Regardless, as we seem to have strong opinions here, I've logged on to the aviation boards to ask what they say.

When in doubt, ask the experts. Stay tuned.

Global warming is only one potential effect of air pollution. Smog by itself is unhealthy. The fact that you bring up global warming in relation to air polution demonstrates your need for a straw man. You use the global warming debate as a device to draw attention away from your disregard for air quality in general.

Really? If I use the global warming hoax as a way to draw attention away from air quality why did you go along with it? You seemed to have no problem with it till I posted an article proving you wrong.

None of that matters. You're just lashing out at what I represent. You're not going to let someone else take control of your destiny.

at this whole thread. The guy can do with his car what he wants. I love the environment, too, but I can give two craps about what this guy does with his money.

The real problem is how much of our money goes over to that part of the world because we need gas. I personally hope this doesn't continue to be a problem for too much longer.

I don't think the article has anything to do with money we can all do stupid things with the level of income we have, he just did it on a larger scale.

For example on a medium income level a comparison could be driving an extra 100 miles to go to a specific dealer for an oil change because there is one specific dealer you prefer. If one person does it so what but if 10,000,000 people do it then it becomes a problem. Just because something is only done by one person and it doesn't make a drastic effect doesn't mean it's not stupid.

Back to the topic now.

A pilot on one of the aviation forums worked it out for me with some rough figures.

Upon closer inspection, the plane pictured is an Airbus A340-642, which is a 4 engined aircraft. I won't go into all the specific consumption math, but it essentially would take about an extra 280 gallons of fuel on that particular aircraft to haul an extra 3,800 lbs or so for a 10 hour flight.

Doha to Heathrow is 7.5 hours, so let's figure 15 hours round trip. That works out to 420 gallons of aviation fuel. At current fuel costs of $3.40 a gallon, that's $1,428 in fuel cost to fly that car back and forth from Doha.

To put in perspective for AZ'ers, that's 27 beer kegs of fuel.

Then factor in the diesel used by the hauler for the 22 kilometer round trip from Heathrow to the North Acton Lamborghini service center, and you have your carbon footprint for this particular trip, my friends.

Use it as you will.

Yep. It has a different formulation than gasoline or diesel, much more like kerosene. I believe its not as refined and burns a lot dirtier than gasoline....and its not subject to all the local, state, and federal taxes that comprise such a huge chunk of gasoline prices.

Boat fuel is the same as you put in your car. The cost is simply higher because it's on the water. You're paying for the convenience. If your boat is small enough to put it on a trailer you can fill up at the gas station just like your car.
