I've never driven a stick before, but I think I could have had the common sense to step on the brake....

Why should that even matter? You still have to step on the clutch to start it.

Thats what I was thinking. So the dumbass kid has the clutch in, starts it, releases the clutch, car takes off, sounds like he gives it some gas, then comedy transpires?

He probably wasn't on the throttle, my gto takes off like that when letting the clutch out in first, it goes up to 9 mph real quick on it's own. it's pretty typical of cars w/ a lot of torque.

btw, the kid sounded like he was 6-8, I wouldn't have known any better myself.

BTW, I hate to admit it too, but I did something similar. My dad was letting me pull his car into the garage and I mis-judged it and tapped the rear of my mom's car. Luckily I was doing like 5mph and it just put a small ding on my dads car, so no biggie... but yeah, I guess that stuff happens at that age. Although I've never come close to going through a garage like that

I know many people who tend to leave their cars in 1st gear as a habit. I guess if your e brake fails and you are parked on a hill theres nothing stopping your car from rolling down the hill in neutral?

My buddy was telling me about the time he let his older brother borrow his car. His brother left his car in 1st gear and my buddy hit his remote start... Same thing happened, the car went through the garage except with no one in it.

True. My dad's 1991 Plymouth Sundance wasn't exactly the posterchild for torque

Listen to it as it goes through the garage, you can hear the engine reving.

around here... in the "OC" you see a lot of folks buying their (h.s.) kids cars like that... or STi's Mitsu EVO's, M3's... and they go out and race'em and crash'em... we've had a couple in the past year that died (I think it was a kid in a M3), and ya know what? I have absolutely NO sympathy for them.

good way to collect life insurance money to support the CA lifestye

I think this phenomenon isn't unique to the OC. For a long time I saw more EVO's turning up in the parking lot of auto-body shops than I did on the road.

^ inexperienced drivers and fast cars don't mix.

Any parent who has common sense will NOT buy their kid a $35,000 (Mitsubishi at that lol) EVO, and I have yet to meet a kid who owns an Evo ( under 21, and not paying for the car and insurance themself ).

Although I know several kids whos parents bought them G35s, TLs, TSXs and 350z's

yea, as I said, that's what happens to a car w/ a lot of torque when you simply let off the clutch in 1st gear. (atleast every one i've driven)

Regardless, you really think he wasnt trying to do anything with his right foot at all as it plows through the garage? He wasnt on the brake thats for certian. Sounds like he was pulling a Santa Monica street market plow-down...
