Just raced a newer 911 turbo

I was heading to the office supply store and I noticed a new silver 911 turbo in front of me. just so happens a mile up the road we ran into a red light together, I was still behind him so I eased into the right lane as we rolled up to a stop. this guy was probably in his 50's, white haired Ralph Lauren looking business man.

So the light turns green and we both ease away. somewhere between 5 and 10 MPH we both punch it. I got ahead of him for a sec, (I must have hit it a split second before him) and pulled a 1/2 car. that didn't last long though, he came back and pulled a car. Then he must have shifted (poorly) and I pulled a car again in 2nd. Then I shifted and he pulled another car... by this time I was in 3rd and he was a car ahead and pulling, I let off and settled in behind him.

I had a grin on my face, and I bet he was like WTF!? how did that grocery getter even stand a chance. I think my shifting > his during this event. he probably thought he would gas it and I would become a little dot in his mirror. I think I took him off guard, but it was awesome.

Are there even new 911 turbo's available right now? I thought the hottest 997 available at this moment was the CarreraS.

I've been thinking about the legacy GT alot lately, and these types of stories don't help...

I've been saying a rwd car would be next for me, but living in new england makes awd very attractive, and the bang for the buck is there too w/ the GT...

And there's a Subie dealership right around the corner from the house...

that's what I thought too. might have been a dealer car or something, or, it might not have been a real 997 Turbo

yea I don't think they're out yet. a quick scan of 6speedonline reveals that the "first in line" are taking delivery in June.

Could have been a 996 Turbo that was recently purchased. I know a few dealers around the country still have a handful of unregistered turbos left over from the final run.

It wasn't was a 997. It looked identical to this, and it was a turbo, not a turbo S.

so by new, I meant 2005.

Damn Matt! That Subie of yours is HUGE! There's no way in hell I can keep up with a 996/997TT. I'm gonna need to add a 100shot b/f the next West Coast Meet!! Either that or I'll need to strip out my whole interior, spare, subs, lose some weight...

My car isn't as quick as one either. and there's no way I'm as quick as you. maybe close in 1st and 2nd w/ a good launch, but you'll walk me hard on the top end. but we shall see.

How quick should your car be anyways? mine should be high 12's @ <105. but it's a guess until I hit the strip.

It varies according to driver widely on the V forums. One guy did a 12.9@109 completely stock (tires and all). Most get low 13's @ 109.

One guy just put slicks on his supercharged V (he also has headers and a better tune) and got 12.3@114 with a 1.7 60'. I'm guessing that if I shift properly (which I rarely do) then I could get a high 12@111+. I'm having 275's put on the rears next week so maybe my launches will see less wheelspin.

mattg,

What does your car dyno at?

Have you had it to the track when stock or at all?

This is the dyno from my protune in February. The numbers are high due to the SAE correction, and the fact that is was <20 degrees in the shop.

realistically I'm closer to 270 WHP and 320WTQ, which is a ~ 80 WHP & 120WTQ gain over stock. a stock LGT does ~ 14.0 @ 95 MPH.

Not bad at all but you are under estimating yourself (SAE reads lower than STD) even though the temps were so low (it probably evened out). Also is that an AWD dyno or did you have to unhook front/rear wheels?

I know what they run stock, I was just curious if you had any of your own times to compare. Many people run quicker/slower than the car should, I was just curious where "you" were. With those mods, you should be easily in the 12's with a decent launch.

Try and get to the track soon and let us know how it does.

it was an AWD mustang dyno, the #'s are AWHP.

I plan on making it to the dragstrip and a road course (PIR) this spring/summer.

I haven't, but i'm sure I'll get a chance this spring or summer, probably after I get my new TMIC and cat(less)-back.

what mods does your friend have?

Has Red-Rider started modding yet? I feel like I might end up being the slowest one at WCM5!

BTW, what credentials do I need to go road racing at Portland International? I'll have my racing school certificate coming up on the 24th from Pacific Raceways. I'm gonna bitch-slap my buddy on the track in his 350Z. I'm gonna see if I can lap him more than once in a 30min session...that'll be funny.

BTW, I've got a new tune coming in the mail on a 2nd PCM. I'm gonna get it dyno'd b/f and after the new tune. Usually nets 30-40 rwhp/tq on a blown LS6 but we'll see. I'll be happy if I'm at 440rwhp/410tq.
