I could have bought a number of vehicles... The M3 though would be at the bottom of that list.

Bottom line I drive at minimum 60k miles a year. This is not only my DD for work, but is my main source of transportation between Branchburg NJ, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, points west like Indianapolis -- south to Charleston WV... etc Basically, at any point in time I can be somewhere in the MWA (Mid-West Area)

On the weekends I can easily have two car seats in the back, and enough room in the trunk for all the necessities that come with having young ones...

If I wanted an M3 or any smaller sedan I'd loose that capability, and I would no longer fly under the radar [blend in] as I do with the Genesis. I'll keep a 2 door for the weekends / sunny days... and the Genesis will be perfect for 95% of what I'll need to do during any other time.

Let me ask you something ... What's the end-game here? How long do you expect to have it? 60k miles a year is a ton of driving. I would want to be in the nicest car I could too if I spent all that time behind the wheel.

But what are your expectations for how long you'll have the car? That many miles in such a short time really shouldn't cause too many problems should it? I have a 13-year old car with 135k miles on it and all the problems it has are due to age and not wear.

I'm just curious if you're under the expectation of notching a quarter of a million miles over the next few years?

I use to do 20-30k per year and I thought that was a pretty good amount. At 60k you practically live in your car. The Genesis is definitely a wise choice.

I'll have it until I decide to trade up / change pace. I'm a engineer for VZW -- I have no choice but to cover a large geographic area. I get compensated accordingly... and the bottom line is when you're in a car for 3-4 hours average a day. I've already driven well over a half-million miles in my 10 years behind the wheel.

If history is any record I tend to keep vehicles for around 18-24 months... The TL and Ridgeline were exceptions... both were turned in well before 18 months.

So to answer your question I honestly don't know how many miles the R-Spec will have before I retire it. My requirements are a comfortable DD for long range driving; and it must be kid friendly. Of course I'll do light modding -- a lot less then I did with the TL. This will allow me to focus on a true project car.

Initial reliability reports from Hyundai claimed testing out to 800k miles. Like you mentioned about time versus actual use, if you could put on that many miles quickly, I don't see why 1/2 Million wouldn't be possible. I am intrigued by how Hyundai's long term reliability will play out. We all know Honda's can last that long, but they have had the time to prove it.

Also, steady highway driving is worlds easier on a car than any other form.

My dad has over 70k on his 2010 Genesis sedan and hasnt had to do anything other than oil changes and replace the shitty dunlops that came on the car after 25-30k miles.

He smokes cigars and the car still smells new, the leather is still soft and supple without signs of wear. And its still as tight and quiet as the day he bought it. The car is holding up VERY well!

Damn 60k a year is definitely a lot. I did 32k last year and will probably be about the same this year. Definitely will keep watch cause the Genesis is my suggestion to my parents to replace there GS with.

I'm at ~2500 and am at 2 weeks of ownership. All the reports I'm seeing indicates the Genesis is a very good car, and maintains that standard well into the high mileage territory.

New badges are on order and I'm working on a project to replace the resonator with the Magnaflow "X" pipe -- as well as some nicer pipes and mufflers so you can actually hear this thing purrr

I can't believe that you can get that much car for that price, reliable too. i don't hear anything bad about these. If people go for anything else in it's class, they are just paying for the badge, and not the car.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread as well. The Genesis is due for a redesign in the next year or so, in addition the CEO said that it will get AWD. My biggest issue with the current iteration is the interior but it isn't a deal breaker. More specifically, the lack of bolstering in the seats and the steering wheel irk me the most.

I'm looking forward to the next generation.

Sorry guys been extreamly busy with work... in Southlake TX at the moment.

The Genny has 11K miles on her at the moment... driving a little less this year (more company trips). That being said the interior is rock solid compared to my Ack's. I agree that the seats could use a bit more bolstering - however I can work with my interior guys on new forms which would not impact the side impact airbags.

At the onset steering feedback was not what I expected coming from the SH-AWD (and 275 series rubber)... a nice feature of the R-spec is I have the capability with the OEM suspension to adjust camber +3 to -3. I'm currently at -1.5 front and -2 rear which has given me quite a bit better cornering ability. Adjusted for slightly more positive caster, and 1/8 toe out up front [yes I know.... unconventional with RWD] but I now have a more responsive chassis and better feedback throughout. The car enters turns much better and mores stable and I always have the ability to apply more throttle to hang out.

Additional tid bit... while the previous generation (pre MMC) employed a solid sway bars the upgraded (read: larger) R-spec opts for the larger diameter, but hollow method.

There are products out there... finding them requires research, but comming soon I will have a C/O system and the larger sway bars.

If I were in the market today, I'd consider an R-Spec.

V8 power, halfway decent handling, bigger back seat for my in-laws, and I hear reports of up to 28 mpg on the freeway. 28 mpg>>>>>>>>19 mpg on the freeway in the CTS-V any day of the week.

Too bad I'm not in the market.

If I were to pick one favorite and least favorite thing....

Fav: Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde personality of the car. Comfortable long range cruiser which is quite, spacious and luxurious... but with a slight nudge of the right foot it'll come to life in any situation you feel up for.

Least Fav: While the suspension and power train will certainly keep up with aggressive maneuvers the lack of side bolstering inspires less confidence. It's not until you really learn the car (and how it reacts) that you can look past this - push her to the limits and back...
