Air filter is on its way. I removed the tint because I got a rollbar for the car that is now powdercoated to match my leons. Plus, I love clear windows, it's super clean on silver cars with dark interior. The tint was in fine condition

btw if I recall, using mdx/oddesey crank rods, and rl pistons makes it a 3.5.

Not trying to flame or anything. Its just what other people have said and done.

only way you could get larger is with a larger bore.

Still kudos to you for doing it, I still have the damn crank and rods sitting in my garage for sometime now because all the mechanic shops in my area are douches and want like 5g to do it.

I believe it has been bored out. Its simple* making a 3.6 now.

*compared to doing a 3.5 that is.

and i think that boring out was more for just cleaning up (they need to be round and straight; not oval shaped, and tapered) the cylinders walls and such, then for performance

This is true for the j35xx cranks/rods, but not true for the j37a1 (2007+ MDX), the setup I used.

The j32a2 has an 89mm bore, and with the j37a1 crank/rods that gives an 89mm bore with a 96mm stroke, which is an unmodified stock steel sleeve with 3.6L of displacement. This is just a bore/stroke combination that Honda never offered.

So yes, it's a j36

There's really no difference in difficulty to do the j35/j36 when done with the j37 rotating assembly. The build is essentially the same with a different stroke.

yeah i was going to say that too, but for some reason i thought you had done it with the j35 crank and where not totally sure about the displacement

Rollbar is installed. Fitment is on-point with this thing. The tolerances are to the last millimeter on all sides. It was a bitch to install (6hr install time), but the extra chassis stiffness/safety will make it worth it. On to the pics:

is it welded to the chassis or just bolted, it looks to be a bolt in type due to the seam on the down tube support, but (i wish i had a 2-door, so i could put in a roll cage and have it look right )

^basically a direct swap, except you'll have to have a 10mm extension to the snout on the crank pulley side. Otherwise, no mods necessary.

I'm not familiar with what a single belt drive conversion will change, but the crank itself is actually 10mm shorter than the j32a2 crank, thus needing the custom snout

Thanks bud. I'll throw some #'s out there, but they are totally irrelevant until I actually get some dyno time. So here goes:

WHP: 410-440 at 8psi
1/4 with slicks: mid-twelves
1/4 with street tires: near impossible, lol

i was thinking along the route of maybe the pulley being thinner, so not needing as long of a snout, so idk

I have a feeling you willl be pleasantly suprised w/the #s at the strip....I think you can def hit mid 11s w/slicks and great launch

good luck

^We'll see. There was a guy on v-6p awhile back with a 6th gen coupe who ran 12.9 with a stock j32a2 and SC, but he was still AT (Dr. Evil). So I agree, if I can hook up, I should be able to top that by at least a second.

On the other hand, I feel like it's always smart to underestimate new setups so the product isn't disappointing (and the haters can't hate on un-met claims). If I break into the 11's, I'll shit myself! lol

Update: one step forward, two steps back, lol. I love it.

Steps forward: I got the afr at a rock-solid 11.2 through the RPM range under full boost. I'll be running two tunes, one for DD at 6psi and 93octane, and the other at 10psi with race gas. As well, I picked up a methanol injection kit and will be installing that this weekend. Spec clutch is performing flawlessly and grabs like a sumbish coupled with the slave-cylinder mod. Still have some break-in to run before hardcore launches, but so-far-so-good

Steps back: broken passenger axle (yes, a cl-s) d/t a combination of j36 man-torque and wheel hop. Wheel hop owns on this setup
Second, the exhaust has a badass tone, but rasps with decel (bad). I already picked up a magnaflow 3" resonator to soften up the exhaust tone.
Third, my new herraflush-ness ate my front fender. It's already fixed via PDR, but it still made my heart sink. Luckily there was no paint-damage:

time for some custom axle then, or at least aftermarket ones (there is a performance one, but can't remember name)

and for the exhaust, i think you should put in a couple of resonators, so it is damn quite, and people dont know what hit them till they hear the turbo spools up

guess the hella-flush bite you in the ass, but at least you got off easy though

poly fill the mounts and the radius rod arm bushings to combat the wheel hop.

also use the engine dampers for wheel hop.

axles gotta be custom with this set-up

and good job, again

I've got front/rear innovatives at 60a for the motor, and the rod arm bushings are poly-filled. No engine dampers yet, but we'll see how much adding the innovative side-mount helps.

I knew the axles were going to be the weakest link, but I didn't anticipate them failing so quickly. I replaced with an OEM I had laying around, so I'll give it a go and see what happens next.

Thanks for the link sleep-deprive, I'll keep that handy should I go for all-custom axles in the near future.
